¶ In this Chapter dothe he the same that he dyd in the Chapter goynge before, that is, moueth them to helpe the poore brethren at Ierusalem.
CAPI. IX.
[ A] OF the ministring to the sayntes, it is but superfluous for me to wryte vnto you / for I knowe youre redynes of mynde, whereof I bost my selfe vnto them of Macedo∣nia, and say that Achaia, was prepared a yere ago, and your feruentnes hath prouoked ma∣ny. Neuertheles, yet haue I sent these brethrē lest our reioysyng ouer you sholde be in vayne in this behalfe, and that ye (as I haue sayde) prepare youre selues, leest happely yf they of Macedonia come with me, and fynde you vn∣prepared: the boost that I made in this mater sholde be a shame to vs, I saye not vnto you. [ B]
Wherfore I thought it necessary to exhorte the brethren to come before hande vnto you for to prepare your good blessyng promised a∣fore, that it might be redy: so that it be a bles∣syng, and not a defraudyng.* 1.1 ✚ This yet remē∣bre, how that he which soweth litel, shal repe lytell, and he that soweth plenteously, shall repe plenteously. And let euery man do accor∣dynge as he hathe purposed in his herte,* 1.2 not grudgyngly, or of necessitie. For God loueth a cherefull gyuer. [ C]
God is hable to make you ryche in al grace that ye in all thynges hauyng sufficient vnto the vttermost, may be ryche vnto all manner good workes, as it is writtē.* 1.3 He hath spar∣sed abrode and hathe gyuen to the poore, his rightousnes remayneth for euer. He that fyn∣deth the sower seed, shall mynyster breed for fode, and shal multiply your seed and increace the frutes of your ryghtousnes ⊦ that on all parties, ye may be made ryche in all singlenes, whiche causeth thorow vs, thankes geuynge vnto God. [ D]
For the offyce of this ministracion, not on∣ly supplyeth the nede of the sayntes: but al∣so is aboundaunte herein, that for this lauda∣ble ministrynge, thankes myghte be gyuen to God of many, which prayse God, for the obe∣dience of youre professynge the Gospell of Chryste, and for youre singlenes in distribu∣tynge to them and to all men: and in theyr prayers to God for you, longe after you, for the aboundaunte grace of God gyuen vnto you. Thankes be vnto God for his vnspeaka∣ble gyfte.
