¶ Mardocheus vttreth the treasō deuysed against the kynge, and is therfore rewarded of him.
AT the same tyme dwelt Mardocheus with Bagatha and Tares the kyn∣ges [ A] chamberlayns and porters of the palace. But when he herde their deuyce, and had diligently consydred theyr ymaginacy∣ons,* 1.1 he perceyued that they wente aboute to laye theyr cruel handes vpon the kynge Ar∣taxerxes, and so he certified the king therof. Then caused the kynge to examyn the two
gelded with tormentes. And when they had graunted it, they were put to deth.
This the kyng caused to be put in the Cro¦nicles for an euerlastynge remembraunce, & Mardocheus wrote vp the same matter. So [ B] the kyng commaunded ye Mardocheus shold do seruyce in ye court, & for this faythfulnes of his, he gaue him a reward. But Aman the sonne of Amadathu the Agagite, which was holdē in great honour & reputacion in ye kin¦ges court vndertoke to hurt Mardocheus & his people, bycause of ye two chamberlaynes that were put to deth.
