[ A] B* 1.1Vt who geueth credence vnto oure preachynge? Or to whome is the arme of the Lorde knowen? He shall growe be∣fore the Lord lyke as a braunch, & as a rote in a drye ground, he shall haue neyther bewtie nor fauoure. When we loke vpon hym, there shalbe no fayrnesse, we shall haue no luste vn∣to hym. He shalbe the most symple, and des∣pysed of all,* 1.2 whiche yet hath good experience of sorowes and infirmities. We shall reken [ B] hym so symple and so vyle, that we shall hyde oure faces from hym. How be it (of a trouth) he only taketh awaye oure infirmite, and bea¦reth oure payne. Yet we shall iudge hym, as though he were plaged & cast downe of God, where as he (not withstandyng) shalbe woun¦ded for oure offences, and smytten for oure wyckednes. For the payne of our punyshmēt shalbe layde vpon hym, and with his strypes shall we be healed.

As for vs, we go all astraye (lyke shepe) [ C] euery one turneth his owne waye. But tho∣rowe hym, the Lorde pardoneth all oure syn∣nes.* 1.3 He shalbe payned and troubled, and shall not open his mouth. He shalbe led as a shepe to be slayne, yet shal he be as styll as a lambe before the shearer, and not open his mouthe. He shall be had awaye, his cause not herde, and without any iudgement. Whose genera∣cion yet no man maye nombre,* 1.4 when he shalbe cut of from the ground of the lyuyng. Which punyshment shall go vpon hym, for the trans∣gression of my people. His graue shalbe ge∣uen hym with the condemned, and his crucy∣fyenge with the theues. Where as he dyd ne¦uer violence nor vnryght, neyther hath there bene any disceatfulnesse in his mouth.

[ D] Yet hath it pleased the Lorde to smyte him with infirmite, that when he had made his soule an offerynge for synne, he myght se long lastynge sede. And this deuyce of the Lorde shall prospere in his hande.* 1.5 With trauayle & laboure of his soule, shall he obtayne greate ryches. My ryghtous seruaūt shall with his wysdome iustifye and delyuer the multitude, for he shall beare awaye theyr synnes. Ther∣fore wyll I geue hym the multitude for his parte, and he shall deuyde the stronge spoyle, because he shall geue ouer his soule to death,* 1.6 and shalbe rekened amonge the transgres∣sours, whiche neuertheles shall take awaye the synnes of the multitude, and make inter∣cession of the mysdoers.
