* 1.1PSAL. LIIII. ¶ To the chaunter in Neginoth, an instruccion of Dauid.
[ A] HEare my prayer. O God, and hyde not thy selfe from my petition.
Take hede vnto me & heare me, howe pyteously I mourne and complayne.
The ennemy cryeth so, and the vngodly, cō¦meth on so fast: for they are mynded to do me some myschefe, so maliciously are they set a∣gainst me.
My herte is heuy with in me, and the feare of death is fallen vpon me.
Fearfulnesse and tremblynge are come byd [ B] me, and an horrible dreade hathe ouerwhel∣med me.
And I sayde: O that I had wynges lyke a doue, that I myght flee somewhere, and be at rest.
Lo, then wolde I get me awaye farre of, & remayne in the wyldernesse. Selah.
I wolde make hast to escape, frome t••e stor¦my wynde and tempest.
Destroye their tongues (O Lorde) and dy∣uyde them, for I se vnright••ousnes and strife in the cytie.
This goeth daye and night about the wal¦les, myschiefe and vyce are in the myddest of it.
[ C] Wyckednesse is therin, disceyt and gyle go not out of her stretes.
Yf it were myne ennemye that reuyled me, I could beare it: or yf one that ought me euel wyll, dyd threaten me, I wolde hyde my selfe frome him.
But it is thou my companyon, my gyde & myne owne famylier frende.
We had sw••••e and secrete communication togither in the house of God.
Let death come hastely vpon them, and let them go downe quyck in to hell, for wycked∣nes is amonge them in their dwellynges.
But I will call vnto God, and the Lorde shall helpe me.
In the euenynge, mornynge & at none daye will I mourne and complayne: and he shall heare my voyce.
It is he that delyuereth my soule in peace, from them that lye in wayte for me: for they are many against me.
Y••a euen God that endureth for euer, shall [ D] heare me, and bringe them downe.
For they wil not turne: & why? they feare not God.
Yea they laye handes on such as be at pea•• with him, and so they breake his couenau••••.
Their mouthes are softer then butter,* 1.2 and yet haue they battel in their mynd: their wor¦des are smoother then oyle, & yet be they ve∣ry swerdes.
Cast thy burthen, or care, vpon the Lorde, he shall norysh the, and not leaue the ryghte∣ous in vnquyetnesse.
But as for them, thou (O God) shalt cast downe into the pyt of destruction.
The bloudthursty and disceytfull shall not lyue oute halfe their dayes:* 1.3 neuerthelesse my trust is in the.
