¶ Ioatham raygneth and ouercōmeth the Ammo∣rites. Achaz his sonne raygneth after him.

[ A] IOatham was fyue and twentye yere olde when he began to raygne, and raygned six∣tene yere in Ierusalem. His mothers name was Ierusah the doughter of Zadoc. And he dyd that pleased the Lorde in all poyntes as dyd his father Oziah: saue, that he came not to the temple of the Lorde, and that the peo∣ple dyd yet corrupte theym selues. He buylte [ B] the hye gate of the temple of the Lorde, and on the walle Ophel he buylte moche. More∣ouer he buylte cityes in the mountaynes of Iu¦da, and in the wodde countrey he buylt castels and towres.
And he foughte with the kynge of the chyl∣dren of Ammon, and preuayled agaynst them. And the chyldren of Ammon gau•• him ye same [ C] yere an hundred talentes of syluer, and tenne thousande quarters or whete, and as moche barley. So moche also did the children of Am∣mon gyue him the seconde yere, and the thirde to. And Ioatham became myghtye, bycause he dyrected his waye before the Lorde his God.
[ D] The reste of the actes of Ioatham and all his warres and his wayes are wrytten in the boke of kynges of Israell and Iuda. He was fyue and twentye yere olde, when he began to raygne, and raygned sixtene yere in Ierusa∣lem. And when Ioatham was layde to reste with his fathers, they buryed him in the city of Dauid: and Achaz his sonne raigned in his stede.
