¶ The offerynges of Dauid and of the prynces for the buyldynge of the temple. Dauid dyeth and Sa∣lomon his sonne raygneth in his steade.

ANd Dauid the kynge sayd vnto all the [ A] congregacyon: God hathe specyallye chosen Salomon my sonne, whiche is yet yonge and tender, and the worke is great, for the house is not for man, but for the Lord God. Moreouer I haue prepared with all my myghte for the house of God: golde for thynges of golde, and syluer for thynges of syluer, brasse for thynges of brasse / yron for thynges of yron / and wodde for thynges of wodde: and onykes stones / φ 1.1 set stones / and of other gaye stones / and all maner precyous sto∣nes / and of marble great abundaunce. And yet bycause I haue luste to the house of my God: I haue seuerall golde and syluer, which I giue to the house of my God aboue all I haue prepared for the holye house: euen three thou∣sande talentes of golde, of Ophir, and seuen thousande talentes of syluer tryed: to syle the walles of the house with golde where it be commeth, and with syluer where syluer is [ B] mete, ond for all maner of worcke by the handes of artifycers. And lette me se who is wyllynge also to fyll his hande for the Lorde this daye.

And the auncient lordes, & the lordes of the trybes of Israell, and the capitaynes of thou∣sandes and hundredes, and the lordes ouer the substaunce of the kynge, were wyllynge / and gaue for the seruyce of the house of God, fyue thousande talentes of golde, and tenne thou∣sande peces of golde caynes / and tenne thou∣sande talentes of syluer, and .xviij. thousande talentes of brasse / and an hundred thousande talentes of yron. And they that had precyous stones, gaue them for the treasure of the house

of the Lorde, vnto the hande of Ieheliel the Gersonite. And the people reioysed that they [ C] were so wyllynge: for with a pure herte they were wyllynge vnto the Lorde, And therto Dauid the kyng reioysed with gret gladnesse. And Dauid blessed the Lorde before all the congregacion and sayde: Blessed arte thou Lorde God of Israel oure father, for euer & euer. Thyne (O Lorde) is greatnesse, power glorye, victorye, and prayse: for all that is in heauen and in erthe is thyne and thyne is the kyngdome (O Lorde) and thou arte lyfte vp an heed aboue all. Rychese and honoure come of the, and thou raygnest ouer all and in thine hande is power and strengthe, and in thyne hande it is to make great & to gyue strengthe [ D] vnto all. And Nowe oure God, we thanke the,* 1.2 and prayse thy gloryouse name. For what am I? and what is my people? that we shuld obtayne strengthe to be so wyllynge? But all is of the, and of that we receyued of thyne hande we haue gyuē the. For we be but straū∣gers before the and tenauntes, as were all oure fathers. Oure dayes on the erthe is but a shadowe, and there is none abydynge. O Lorde oure God, al this heape that we haue prepared to buylde the an house for thy ho∣lye name, commeth of thyne hande, and is al thyne.

I wote my God, that thou prouest the herte and hast pleasure in playnesse. And in playnesse of myne herte I haue wyllynglye gyuen all this. And now I se thy people whi∣che are here in gladnesse to offer wyllynglye to the. O Lorde God of Abraham / Iaac and of Israel our fathers / kepe this for euer in the ymaginacyon of the thoughtes of the herte of thy people / and prepare theyr hertes vnto the. [ E] And gyue vnto Salomon my sonne / a pure herte to kepe my cōmaundementes / thy testi∣monyes and thyne ordynaunces / and to do all / & to buylde the house which I entended.

And Dauyd sayde to all the congregacyon: blesse the Lorde your God. And all the con∣gregacyon blessed the Lorde God of theyr fa∣thers / and stowped and bowed them selues vnto the Lorde and to the Kynge. And they offered offerynges vnto the Lord. And on the morowe after the sayd daye / they offered in burnt offerynges vnto the Lorde a thousande oxen / a thousande rammes and a thousande lam mes with theyr drynke offeringes. And they slue plenteouslye thorowoute all Israel, [ F] and dyd eate and drynke before the Lorde the same day with great gladnesse. And they made Salomon the sonne of Dauyd kynge the se∣cond tyme, and anoynted him vnto the Lord to be ruler, and Zadocke to be the preeste.* 1.3 And so Salomō sate on the seate of the Lord and was kynge for Dauyd his father, and pro¦spered, and all Israel obeyed him. And al the Lordes and men of power, and all the sonnes of Kynge Dauyd submytted them selues vn∣der kynge Salomon. And the Lorde magnify∣ed Salomon on hyghe in the syght of all Is∣rael, and gaue him so gloriouse a Kyngdome as none of all that were kynges before in Is∣raell had. Now Dauyd the sonne of Isai was kynge ouer all Israel. And the space he rayg∣ned [ G] ouer Israel was fourtie yere:* 1.4 seuen yere in Hebron and .xxxiij. yere in Ierusalem. And he dyed in a good age: olde, ryche and glori∣ouse: And Salomon his sonne raigned in his steade. The actes of Dauyd the kyng bothe fyrst and laste, are wryten in the bokes of Samuel the seare and in the boke of Nathan y^e prophete, and in the boke of Gad the sear of visy∣ons, with all his kyng∣dome and power & tymes that wēt ouer him & o∣uer all y^e kin¦gdomes of the erth.
