¶ Of the prynces and rulers that mynystred vnto the kynge.

[ A] TO speake of the chyldren of Israell: in the nombre of them were auncient hee∣des and capitaynes of thousandes and hundredes, and offycers that serued the kynge in all thynge accordynge to the companyes that came in, or wente oute, moneth by mo∣neth thorowe oute all the monethes of the yere. And euery company had four and twen∣tye thousande. Ouer the fyrst companye in the fyrst moneth, was Iasoboam the sonne of Zab¦diel. And in his nombre wer foure and twenty thousand. And the chyefest of all ye capitaynes in the host of the fyrst moneth was of the chil∣dren of Pharez. Ouer the companye of the se∣conde moneth, Dodai and Ahoite, and in his hoste was Makeloth a ruler. And in his com∣pany were foure and twenty thousande. The chyefe Capytayne of the thyrde hoste in the thyrde moneth, was Banaiah the sonne of Ioiada the preest. And in his host four & twen¦tye thousande. This is the same Banaias that was myghty amonge thyrtye and aboue thyr∣tye. And in his parte was Amizabad his sonne.

[ B] The fourth capitayne in the fourth moneth was Asael the brother of Ioab, and Zaba∣diah his sonne after him. And in his hoste four and twentye thousande. The fyfte capitayne in the fyfte moneth was Samahut the Iezea∣hite, and in hib host .xxiiij. thousande. The sixt capitayne in the sixt moneth was Ira the son of Akes a Theuite: and in his host four and twentye thousande.

The seuenth capitayne in the seuenth mo∣neth was Helei the Phalonite, of the children of Ephraim: and in his hoste foure and twen∣tye thousande. The eyght capitayne in ye eyght moneth was Sobocai an Husathite of the kin of Sarah: and in his hoste foure and twenty thousande. The nynthe capitayne in the nynth moneth: was Abiezer an Anathorhite of the sonnes of Iemini and in his hoste .xxiiij. thou∣sande. The tenthe capitayne in the tenth mo∣neth, was Mahari the Netophathire of ye Za∣•••••••••• and in the hoste foure and twentye th••••sade. Among the Le∣uites: Hasabiah the son of Kamuel. Amonge the Haromites: Zadock. In Iuda: Eli of the brethren of Dauid. In Isachar: Amri the sonne of Michael. In Zabulon: Iesmaiah the sonne of Abdiah. In Nephthalie: Ieri∣moth the sonne of Aziel. Amonge the chyl∣dren of Ephraim: Hosea the sonne of Ozi∣ah. In the halfe trybe of Manasses: Ioel the sonne of Phadaiah. Of the halfe trybe of Manasses in Galaad: Iado the sonne of Za∣chariah. In BenIamin: Iasiel the sonne of Abner. In Dan: Azariel the sonne of Ie∣roham: These are the Lordes in the trybes of Israel.

But Dauid toke not the nombre of them vnder twenty yere: for the Lord said he wold encrease Israell lyke vnto the sterres of the skye. And Ioab the sonne of Zaruiah began to nombre / & though he finisshed it not, yet there fell wrathe for that vpon Israel. And therfore the nombre was not put in the Chronicles of kynge Dauid.

Ouer the kynges treasure was Azmoth the [ D] sonne of Adiel. And ouer the treasure of the fel∣des, in the cityes, vyllages, and castelles, was Ionathan, the sonne of Oziah. And ouer the workmen in the feldes that tylled the ground was Ezri the sonne of Chelub. And the ouer∣syght of the vyneyardes had Semelah the Re∣mathite. Ouer the winecellers was Sabdi the Saphonite. And ouer the olyue trees and mul∣bery trees that was in the valeyes, was Baal Hanan the Gadarite. And ouer the treasure of oyle was Ioas. And ouer the oxen that fed in Sarō was Setari the Saronite. And ouer the oxen in the valeyes, was Saphat the sonne of Adlai. And ouer the camelles Vbil the Ilma∣lite. And ouer the asses was Iohadiah the Me¦rothite. And ouer the shepe was Iazis the Ha∣garite. All these were the rulers of the sub∣staunce of kynge Dauid. And Ionathan Da∣uids brothers sonne, a man of counsell, a man that taught wysdom, & a writer / he and Iehiel the sonne of Hachamoni wayted on the kyn∣ges sonnes. And Achitophel was of the kyn∣ges counsell. And Husar the Arachite was the kynges compaignion. And nexte to Achitophel was Iotada the sonne of Banaiah, and Abia∣thar. And the capitayne of the kynges warres was Ioab.
