CAP. XIIII.

[ A] AT that tyme Abiah the sonne of Iero∣boam fell sicke. And Ieroboam sayd vn¦to his wyfe: aryse and chaunge thyne apparell, that thou be not knowen to be the wyfe of Ieroboam, and get the to Siloh. For there is Ahiah the Prophete, which tolde me* 1.1 that I shoulde be kynge ouer this people. * And take with the ten loues and cracknel∣les and a cruse of hony, and goo to him: for he will tell the what shall come of the childe. And Ieroboams wyfe dyd so: she arose and went to Siloh, and came to the house of Ahi¦ah. But Ahiah coulde not se, for his eyes were waxen dymme for age.

And the Lorde sayde vnto Ahiah: Behold, the wyfe of Ieroboam commeth, to questyon with the about her sonne which is sicke. This wyse and this wyse aunswere her. And when [ B] she came, she feyned her self to be an other wo¦man. But when Ahiah herde the sounde of her fete as she came to the dore, he sayde: Come in thou wyfe of Ieroboam, why feynest thou thy selfe to be an other?* 1.2 I am sent to the an heuy messenger. God and tell Ieroboam, thus sayth the Lorde God of Israell: for as moch as I auaunced the aboue the comen people, & made the prince ouer my people Israell, and dyd plucke the kyngdome away from y^e house of Dauid and gaue it the: and thou hast not bene as was my seruaunt Dauid, who kepte my commaundmentes and folowed me with al his hert, to do y^t only which semeth right in myne eyes: but hast done euyl aboue all that were before the, and haste gone and made the other goddes and ymages, of metall to pro∣uoke me, and hast cast me behynde thy backe: [ C] therfore beholde I wyll brynge euyll vpon y^e house of Ieroboam, and will stryke frome Ie¦roboam all that pisseth against the wall, and what so euer is in pryson or forsaken in Isra∣el, and will take awaye the remnaunt of the house of Ieroboam, as men take away a dong hyll, tyll it be consumed.* 1.3 And who so euer of Ieroboams house dye in the towne, hym shall the dogges eate, and him that dyeth in the felde, shall the foules of the ayre eate: for [ D] the Lorde hathe sayde it, aryse and get the to thyne house, and as sone as thy fote entereth the cytie, the chylde shall dye. How be t••••l Is¦raell shall mourne him and bury him, for this only of all Ieroboam shall come to the sepul¦chre, because in him there is founde goodnesse towarde the Lorde God of Israel in the house of Ieroboam. Moreouer the Lorde shal stere him vp a kynge ouer Israel who shall destroy the house of Ieroboam in that day. And what is that that is now in hande? And the Lorde shall smyte Israell, as a rede that groweth in the water is shaken, and will wede Israel out of this good lande which he gaue to their fathers, and wyll scatter theym beyonde Eu∣phrates, because they haue made theym gro∣ues to angre the Lorde. And he wyl gyue Is∣raell vp, because of the synne of Ieroboam, wherwith he dyd synne, & made Israell synne also.

And Ieroboams wyfe arose and departed, [ E] and wente to Therzah, and by that she was come to the thressholde of the dore, the ladde was deed. And all Israel buryed him and la∣mented him, accordinge to the worde of the Lorde which he spake by the hande of his ser¦uaunte Ahiah the Prophete. The rest of the dedes of Ieroboam, how he warred and how he raygned, are wrytten in the booke of the Chronicles of the kynges of Israell. And the dayes which Ieroboam raygned, were two & twenty yere. And then he rested with his fa∣thers, and Nadab his sonne raygned in his stede. [ F]

And Rehoboam the son of Salomon rayg¦ned in Iuda, and was .xli.* 1.4 yere olde when he began to raygne, and raygned .xvij. yere in Ie¦rusalem the cytie which the Lord had chosen out of all y^e trybes of Israel, to put his name there. His mothers name was Naamah an Ammonite. And Iuda wrought wycked∣nesse in the sight of the Lord and angred him aboue all that their fathers dyd, with their synne which they synned. For they also made them hill aultars and Images and groues on euery hyghe hyll, and vnder euery grene tree. And therto ther was a siues of male childrē in the lande,* 1.5 and they dyd accordinge to all the abhominacions of the Heythen, whiche the Lorde cast out before the children of Israel. [ G] And the fyft yere of kynge Rehoboā came Se sack kynge of Egypt vp to Ierusalem, & toke awaye the treasure of the house of the Lorde and the treasure of the kynges house, and all that was to be had. And he toke away y^e shil∣des of golde which Salomō made.* 1.6 In whose slede kynge Rehoboam made brasen shyldes, and put them in the keping of the capitaynes of the garde, which wayted at the dore of the kynges house. And as ofte as the kynge went into the house of the Lorde, they of his garde bare them, and euer brought them agayne in∣to the garde chambre.

The rest of the Actes of kynge Rehoboam and all he dyd, are written in the boke of the Actes of the kynges of Iuda. And there was w••••••re betwene Rehoboam and Ieroboam al th•••• lyues. And Rehoboam layde him to rest with his fathers, and was buryed with his fathers in y^e cytie of Dauid. And his mothers name was Naamah an Ammonite. And Abiā his sonne raygned in his place.
