§. 1.

LOue not the vvorld, (saith Saint Iohn,)* 1.1 neither the things that are in the world. If any man loue the world, the loue of the Father is not in him.

For, all that is in the worlde, (as the lust* 1.2 of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, & the pride of life,) is not of the Father, but is of the World. And, the vvorld passeth away, & the lust thereof, but hee that fulfilleth the will of God, abideth euer.

Yee adulterers, and adultresses, know ye* 1.3 not, that the amitie of the world, is the eni∣mitie of God? Whosoeuer therefore vvill be a friende of the world, maketh himselfe the enemie of God.
