The Epistle.

ALl that is borne of God, * 1.1 ouercommeth the world. And this is the victory that ouercom∣meth the world, euen our faith. Who is hee that ouercommeth the world, but hee that beleeueth that Iesus is the Sonne of God? This Iesus Christ is he that came by water and blood: not by water only, but by water and blood. And it

is the spirit that beareth witnesse, because the spirit is trueth. For there are three which beare record in heauen, the Father, the Word, and the holy Ghost, and these three are one. And there are three which beare record in earth, the Spirit, & Wa∣ter, and Blood, and these three are one. If we receiue the wit∣nesse of men, the witnes of God is greater: for this is the wit∣nesse of God, which he testified of his Sonne. He that belee∣ueth on the Sonne of God, hath the witnesse in himselfe: He that beleeueth not God, hath made him a liar, because he be∣leeueth not the record that God gaue of his Sonne. And this is the record, how that God hath giuen vnto vs eternall life, and this life is in his Sonne. He that hath the Sonne, hath life, and he that hath not the Sonne of God, hath not life.

The Gospel.

THe same day at night, * 1.2 which was the first day of the Sabboths, when the doores were shut (where the disciples were assembled together for feare of the Iewes) came Iesus and stood in the mids, and said vnto them, Peace be vn∣to you. And when hee had so said, hee shewed vnto them his handes and his side. Then were the disciples glad when they saw the Lord. Then said Iesus to them againe, Peace be vnto you. As my Father sent me, euen so send I you also. And when he had said these words, he breathed on them, and said vnto them, Receiue yee the holy Ghost. Whosoeuers sinnes yee remit, they are remitted vnto them, and whosoe∣uers sinnes ye retaine, they are retained.
