A Syrope for the Backe.

TAke the rootes of Ennila Compana cleane scraped, and slice them thin, and lay them in faire running water three dayes, and shift them every day, then at three dayes end take them out▪ and put them in a gallon of faire running water, with a quart of Honey, of Lycorice one ounce, scraped cleane and sliced, and of Anniseeds one ounce, cleane rubbed from the dust, let all these be boyled with a soft fire, and take out the rootes out of the liquour, washing them one by one, and when they be cut lay them on a faire dish, and so let them lye 24. houres, and then take the rootes and weigh them, and for every pound of your rootes, take a pottle of Muskadine, or white Bastard, and put your rootes therein, and put thereto two pound of fine white Su∣ger, two or three whole Maces, boyle all these to a Syrope, with your rootes, and then put it into a Pot, and when you will use it, let the Patient eate of the rootes, and drinke a spoon∣full of the Syrope with your rootes, after it, Morning and Evening. Probatum est.
