PSAL. XXXVII. A Psalm of David. (Book 37)

FOr evill doers fret thou not thy self, unquietly, Nor do thou envy bear to those that work iniquity. For even like unto the grasse,Line 2 soon be cut down shall they, And, like the green and tender herb, they wither shall away.
Set thou thy trust upon the Lord,Line 3

and be thou doing good. And so thou in the land shalt dwell, and verily have food. Delight thy self in God hee'l giveLine 4 thine hearts desire to thee. Thy way to God commit, him trust,Line 5 it bring to passe shall he.
And, like unto the light, he shallLine 6 thy righteousnesse display, And he thy judgement shall bring forth like noon-tide of the day. Rest in the Lord, and patientlyLine 7 wait for him: do not fret For him, who prospering in his way, successe in sin doth get.
Do thou from anger cease, and wrathLine 8 see thou forsake also: Fret not thy self in any wise, that evill thou should do. For, those that evill doers are,Line 9 shall be cut off and fall: But those that wait upon the Lord, the earth inherit shall.
For, yet a little while, and thenLine 10 the wicked shall not be: His place thou shall consider well, but it thou shalt not see. But, by inheritance, the earthLine 11 the meek-ones shall possesse: They also shall delight themselves in an abundant peace.

The wicked plots against the just,Line 12 and at him whets his teeth. The Lord shall laugh at him, becauseLine 13 his day he coming seeth. The wicked have drawn out the sword,Line 14 and bent their bow, to slay The poor and needy, and to kill men of an upright way.
But their own sword, which they have drawn,Line 15 shall enter their own heart, Their bows, which they have bent, shall break, and into pieces part. A little that a just man hath,Line 16 is more, and better far Then is the wealth of many such as lewd and wicked are.
For sinners arms shall broken be:Line 17 but God the just sustains. God knows the just mans dayes, and stillLine 18 their heritage remains. They shall not be asham'd, when theyLine 19 the evill time do see: And when the dayes of famine are, they satisfi'd shall be.
But wicked men, and foes of God,Line 20 as fat of lambs decay, They shall consume; yea, into smoke they shall consume away. The wicked borrows, but the sameLine 21 again he doth not pay: Whereas the righteous mercy shows, and gives his own away.

For such as blessed be of him,Line 22 the earth inherit shall; And, they that cursed are of him, shall be destroyed all. A good mans footsteps by the LordLine 23 are ordered aright: And, in the way wherein he walks, he greatly doth delight.
Although he fall, yet shall he notLine 24 be cast down utterly: Because the Lord with his own hand upholds him mightily. I have been young, and now am old:Line 25 yet have I never seen The just man left, nor that his seed for bread have beggers been.
He's ever mercifull, and lends:Line 26 his seed is blest therefore. Depart from evill, and do good:Line 27 and dwell for evermore. For God loves judgement, and his saintsLine 28 leaves not in any case, They are kept ever: but cut off shall be the sinners race.
The just inherit shall the land,Line 29 and ever in it dwell. The just mans mouth doth wisedom speak:Line 30 his tongue doth judgement tell. In's heart the Law is of his God,Line 31 his steps slide not away. The wicked man doth watch the just,Line 32 and seeketh him to slay.

Yet him the Lord will not forsake,Line 33 nor leave him in his hands, The righteous will He not condemn, when he in judgement stands, Wait on the Lord, and keep his way,Line 34 and thee exalt shall He, Th'earth to inherit: when cut off the wicked thou shalt see.
I saw the wicked great in pow'r:Line 35 spread like a green bay-tree. He past, yea, was not: him I sought,Line 36 but found he could not be. Mark thou the perfect, and beholdLine 37 the man of uprightnesse: Because that surely of this man the latter end is peace.
But those men that transgressours are,Line 38 shall be destroy'd together, The latter end of wicked men shall be cut off for ever. But the salvation of the justLine 39 is from the Lord above, He, in the time of their distresse, their stay and strength doth prove.
The Lord shall help, and them deliver:Line 40 He shall them free and save From wicked men: because in him their confidence they have.
