PSAL. CVII. (Book 107)

PRaise God, for he is good, for still his mercies lasting be. Let Gods redeem'd say so, whom heLine 2 from th' enemies hand did free: And gathered them out of the lands,Line 3 from North, South, East and VVest. They stray'd in deserts pathlesse way▪Line 4 no city found to rest.
For thirst and hunger in them faintsLine 5 Line 6

their soul. VVhen straits them presseLine 6 They cry unto the Lord, and he them frees from their distresse. Them also in a way to walk,Line 7 that right is, he did guide, That they might to a city go, wherein they might abide.
O that men to the Lord would giveLine 8 praise, for his goodnesse, then, And for his works of wonder done unto the sons of men. For he the soul that longing isLine 9 doth fully satisfie, VVith goodnesse he the hungry soul doth fill abundantly
Such as shut up in darknesse deep,Line 10 and in deathsshade abide, VVhom strongly hath affliction bound, and irons fast have ty'd (Because against the words of GodLine 11 they wrought rebelliously, And they the counsell did contemn of him that is most hie)
Their heart he did bring down with grief,Line 12 they fell, no help could have. In trouble then they cry'd to God,Line 13 he them from straits did save. He out of darknesse did them bring,Line 14 and from deaths shade them take: These bands wherewith they had been bound, asunder quite he brake.

O that men to the Lord would giveLine 15 praise, for his goodnesse then, And for his works of wonder done unto the sons of men. Because the mighty gates of brasseLine 16 in piece she did tear, By him in sunder also cut the bars of iron were.
Fools for their sin, and their offence,Line 17 do sore affliction bear. All kinde of meat their soul abhors,Line 18 they to deaths-gates draw near. In grief they cry to God, he savesLine 19 them from their miseries: He sends his word them heals, and themLine 20 from their destructions frees.
O that men to the Lord would giveLine 21 praise, for his goodnesse then, And for his works of wonder done unto the sons of men. And let them sacrifice to himLine 22 off'rings of thankfulnesse, And let them shew abroad his worke in songs of joyfulnesse.
Who go to sea in ships, and inLine 23 great waters trading be, Within the deep these men Gods works,Line 24 and his great wonders see. For he commands, and forth in hasteLine 25 the stormie tempest flyes, Which makes the sea with rouling waves aloft to swell and rise.

Page 226

They mount to heav'n, then to the depthsLine 26 they do go down again, Their soul doth faint, and melt away with trouble and with pain. They reel and stagger like one drunk,Line 27 at their wits end they be: Then they to God in trouble cry,Line 28 who them from straits doth free.
The storm is chang'd into a calm,Line 29 at his command and will, So that the waves which rag'd before, now quiet are and still. Then are they glad, because at restLine 30 and quiet now they be, So to the haven he them brings which they desir'd to see.
O that men to the Lord would giveLine 31 praise, for his goodnesse, then, And for his works of wonder, done unto the sons of men. Among the people gathered,Line 32 let them exalt his Name; Among assembled Elders spread his most renowned fame.
He to dry land turns water-springs,Line 33 and floods to wildernesse: For sins of those that dwell thereinLine 34 fat land to barrennesse. The burnt and parched wildernesseLine 35 to water-pools he brings. The ground that was dry'd up before he turns to water springs.

And there, for dwelling, he a placeLine 36 doth to the hungry give, That they a city may prepare commodiously to live. There sow they fields, and vineyards plantLine 37 to yeeld fruits of increase. His blessing makes them multiply,Line 38 lets not their beasts decrease.
Again they are diminished,Line 39 and very low brought down, Through sorrow, and affliction, and great oppression. He upon Princes pours contempt,Line 40 and causeth them to stray And wander in a wildernesse, wherein there is no way.
Yet setteth he the poor on highLine 41 from all his miseries; And he, much like unto a flock, doth make him families. They that are righteous shall rejoice,Line 42 when they the same shal see; And, ashamed, stop her mouth shall all iniquitie.
Who so is wise, and will these thingsLine 43 observe, and them record, Ev'n they shall understand the love and kindnesse of the Lord.
