The Combat betwixt the superiour and inferiour part of the Soul, the Flesh and the Spi∣rit, as they are termed in Scri∣pture and Divinity, is at last resolved into the ridiculous noddings and joggings of a
small glandulous button in the midst of the Brain, encoun∣tred by the animal Spirits rude∣ly flurting against it. This little sprunt Champion called the Conarion, within which the Soul is entirely cooped up, acts the part of the Spirit, and the animal Spirits of the Flesh; and thus by the Soul thus in∣garrisoned in this Pine-kernel, and bearing her self against the arietations and jurrings of the Spirits in the Ventricles of the Brain, must that solemn Combat be performed which the Holy Ghost calls the war, &c.
