[ A] * 1.1THen came the pharises & saduces / & did tempte him / desyringe him to shewe them some signe from hevē. He answe¦red & sayde vnto thē. At even ye saye / we shall have fayre wedder / & y^t because y^e skye is reed: & in the morninge ye saye / to daye shalbe fou∣le wedder / and that because the skye is cloudy & reed. O ye ypocrites / ye can discerne y^e fas∣sion of the skye: & can ye not discerne y^e signes of the tymes? The frowarde nacion & advou∣trous seketh a signe / * 1.2and there shall non other signe be geven vnto them / but the signe of the prophet Ionas. So lefte he them & departed.

And when his disciples were come to the [ B] other side of the water / they had forgottē to take breed with thē. * 1.3Then Iesus sayd vnto them: Take hede and beware of the levē of y^e Pharises & of y^e Saduces. And they thought in them selves sayinge: because we have brought no breed with vs. When Iesus vn∣derstode that / he sayd vnto thē. O ye of lytell faith / why are youre mindes cumbred because ye have brought no breed? Do ye not yet per∣ceave / nether remēber those .v. loves when there were .v. M. men / & how many baskett{is} toke ye vp? Nether the .vii. lones / when there were .iiiii. M. & how many baskettes toke ye vp? Why pereeave ye not then / y^t I spake not vnto you of breed / whē I sayde / beware of the leven of the Pharises & of the Saduces? Thē vnderstode they / how that he bad not them be¦ware of the leven of breed: but of the doctrine of the Pharises / and of the Saduces.

✚ [ C] * 1.4When Iesus cam in to the coste of the cite which is called Cesarea Philippi / he axed his disciples sayinge: whom do men saye y^t I the sonne of mā am? They saide / some saye y^t thou arte Ihon Baptist / some Helias / some Ieremias / or one of y^e prophet{is}. He sayde vnto thē: but whō saye ye y^t I am? Simō Peter an¦swered & sayde: Thou arte Christ y^e sonne of the lyvinge God. * 1.5And Iesus answered & say¦de to him: happy arte thou Simon the sonne of Ionas / for fleshe & bloud hath not opened vnto the y^t / but my father which is in hevē. And I saye also vnto the / y^t thou arte Peter:

and apon this rocke I wyll bylde my congre∣gacion. And the gates of hell shall not prevay¦le ageynst it. And I wyll geve vnto the / the keyes of the kyngdom of heven: and what soe¦ver thou byndest vpon erth / shall be bounde in heven: and what soever thou lowsest on erthe / shalbe lowsed in heven. ⊢

Then he charged his disciples / y^t they shul∣de tell no man / y^t he was Iesus Christ. From [ D] y^t tyme forth / Iesus began to shewe vnto his disciples / how y^t he must go vnto Ierusalem / & suffer * 1.6 many thing{is} of y^e Elders / & of y^e hye prestes / & of the scribes / & must be killed / & ryse agayne y^e thirde daye. But Peter toke him a sy¦de / & began to rebuke him sayinge: master faver thy sylfe this shall not come vnto the. Then tourned he aboute / & sayde vnto Peter: come af¦ter me Satan* 1.7 / thou offendest me / because thou sauourest not godly thing{is} / but wordly thing{is}

Iesus then sayde to his disciples. If eny man wyll folowe me / leet him forsake him syl∣fe* 1.8 / and take vp his crosse and folowe me. For who soever wyll save his lyfe / shall loose it. And whosoever shall loose his lyfe for my sa∣ke* 1.9 / shall fynde it. What shall it proffet a man / though he shulde wynne all the whoole worl∣de: yf he loose his owne soule? Or els what shall a man geve to redeme his soule agayne with all? * 1.10For the sonne of man shall come in the glory of his father / w^t his angels: & then shall he rewarde every man accordinge to his dedes.* 1.11 Verely I saye vnto you / some ther be a¦monge them that here stonde / which shall not

taste of deeth / tyll they shall have sene the son∣ne of man come in his kyngdomen.
