[ B] saylyd in to Normandy to his wyf and when swanus herd of his depertyng he areryd gret sōmis of money of the people & a grete parte of seynt Edmondis landis which the people there claymyng to be fre of kyng{is} trybute denyed to pay / wherefor swan{us} dyspysyng ye holy marter enteryd ye teritory of seynt Edmond & spoylyd ye countrey so that men of that countrey fell to preyr so that shortly after this swanus dyed sodenly yellyng & crieng among his knyghtis some sey that he was stykkyd with the swerd of sent Edmond / wherof he dyed the .iii. day after / In fere wherof Canutus his son which rulyd as kyng after his fader graūtyd to them all theyr lybertes / after this when Egelredus herd of the deth of swanus he made prouysyon & came in to Englond of whose cōmyng so kanutus beyng vnprouydyd saylyd in to Demars / & retornyd agayne the next yere with a grete nauey & landyd in ye south countrey wherfore ye eldest son of kyng Egelredus callyd Edmond yronsyd made {pro}uysyon with the eyde of Edrycus to mete hym but Edrycus cam not but dysseyuyd hym for as it was after prouyd Edrycus had promysyd his fauor to kanutus / by reason wherof kanutus enteryd ye cōtrey of west saxons & forsyd ye people there to swere to hym fealte & to gyf to hym pleggis / In this tyme Egelredus beyng at London was takyn with a grete sekenes & there dyed & was buryed in the north syde of Poulys church behynd the quere after that he had reynyd & vnwysely gouernyd the realme .xxxvi. yeris / leuyng after hym his seyd eldest son Edmond yronsyde / & Alfryde & Edward whych were in Normandy and thyder before sent as is before rehersyd.
