[ B] In this tyme begā gret deth ī brytteyn wherof many bysshopp{is} died / & ī this tyme os∣wy yā sole kīg of all northūber dyed & egfrid{us} his sō was kīg after hym & about this tyme cōwalc{us} kīg of westsaxōs dyed & kēwin{us} succedyd / hī this kēwin{us} made gret war agaīst ye brit∣tons & had vyctory also Egfrydus made oft war agaynst them & the Pyctis & had oft victory but the Pyctis one tyme by a polecy fleīg bak broght Egfride īto a strayt amōg moūteyns where Egfryd{us} was slayn & a gret part of hys people / after whose deth a basterd brother of hys callyd Alfridus No∣tus was made kynge of all northumberland / Sone after this Cad wall kynge of britteyns dyed but Polycronycon nor none other auctour shewyth any actys of Cadwall as galfryde doth nother of his beriall nor of the Image of brasse set vppon an horse of brase at Ludgate or y Cadwalladrus whych Bede callyth Cedwalla shuld be his son therfore I let all that matter pas.

¶Cadwalladrus which Bede callyth Cedwalla began to rule the bryttons as Galfryde affyrmith ye yere of cryst .vi.C.lxxxiiii / Thys Cadwalladrus by Galfryde is callyd sonn of Cadwall but willm̄s de regibus seyth he was kyng of westsaxōs next after kenwyn descendyng lyneally of the noble blod of germayns / Also holy Beda whiche was lyuynge the same tyme affyrmyth that thys Cedwalla or Cadwalader was kyng of westsaxōs dyscendyng of the kyngis blod of ye people callyd Geuissi which he expounyth to be westsaxons whyce .ii. seyngys may wel accord because ye west saxōs cā out of ger¦mania / this cadwallader as beda affyrmyth / for deuocion forsoke his kyngdome & cme to rome & there of the pope Sergyus was crystynyd after whō succedyd hī one Hū kīg of westsaxōs .xxx.vii. yere which after forsoke hys kyngdome & also came to rome / Also about this tyme Sebba kyng of Essaxōs was cōuerrid to crystys feyth by seynt Erkynwald.
