¶Cadwall{us} or Cadwalin son to Cadwā was next made kīg of the brytteyns the yere of cryst .vi.C.xxxv. [ B] He was a noble man & made grete war vppon the saxōs & wan many townis & castellis of thē & specially in Mercia that Penda beyng there kyng was glade to sew to him for pese and some write that Pēda yffyd vnder his tribute & after took part with cadwall agayns the other saxon kyngis In this tyme one Segebert{us} kyng of Estāgles was cristinid & after betoke his kīgdome to one Edric{us} his neuew & made hem selfe a monk / & whā Pēda kyng warred in that contrey / this Segebart was brought to the felde wher both he and Edric{us} were sleyn after whose deth one Anna was ther made kīg / Also about this tyme Edwaldus kyng of kēt dyed & Excōbartus was made kyng / whiche there reuiued the fayth of crist whiche was sore appalid / He dystroyed the temples of fals goddis & made there lent to be fast / Also in this tyme kyngilsus kyng of west saxones be came crystened of seynt bi∣ryne bysshop / & after dyed / & kenwallcus his son reynyd after hym whych warrid oftymes agaynst ye brittons & put thē to the wors / Oswold of whō I spake before was ā holy man / But Pēda which had disdayn at hym & all other crysten pryncis made warr vppon hym & slewe him / After whose deth god shewyd for hym many myracles / but after one yere of his deth Oswy his yōger brother recoueryd ye kyngdome of Brenicia / & anon after he foūde vnlefull menis & slewe Oswyn that was king of deyra whych Oswyne was sō to Eufryc{us} eldest brother to Oswold & toke to hym to be kyng of deyra one odilwald{us} son of oswold whych dyed before oswy / About this time Ciuchelm{us} kyng of Essex died / after whō succedyd Sigerus & his broder Sebba which both denyed the feyth But Sebba was con∣ueryd by seynt Erkynwld & is buryed in paulys.
