* 1.1 THis Speculum Linguae. is a small instrument which may be carried in a plaister box: it is formed like a splatter or spatula at one end, onely it is hollow and cut through, and the other being formed for scraping the tongue, is very fitting in Fevers, and furring of the tongue. The broad end is used to hold down the tongue at some times as you desire, either to inject any liquor into the throat, or to apply any other medicine to the mouth or throat; though some use in place thereof a splatter, yet this instrument is far steddier, better, and* 1.2 cleaner and being through hollow, as is said, the tongue is not apt to slip or slide from under it any way.
