A. D. 1172. by Maud widow to Ranulph II. Earl of Chester; Calk became a Cell to this Mona∣stery. Here had been in ancient times a famous Monastery, wherein several of the Saxon Kings of Mercia were interr'd; but it was destroyd in the Danish wars. This latter foundation was dedicated to the holy Trinity and St. Mary, and valued at the Dissolution at 118l. 8s. 6d. Dugd. 167l. 18. 2. Speed.
