HYMN V. (Book 5)

TO us our God commends his Love,* 1.1 When guilty and undone; In that, to save us from our Sins, He did not spare his Son,* 1.2
His Only Son,* 1.3 on whom he plac'd All his Delight and Love, Before he form'd the Earth below, Or spread the Heavens above;
Th' Eternal Darling of his Soul,* 1.4 Him he sent from on high To clothe himself with mortal Rags, And lay his Glory by;
To bear the Curses we deserv'd,* 1.5 Our heavy Cross sustain; To bleed and die upon it too, That we might Life obtain:

* 1.6This Life is hid in God with Christ, Who fell a Sacrifice, * 1.7By Death to conquer Death for us, * 1.8That we like him might rise:
* 1.9For he soon triumph'd o're the Grave, * 1.10And went to Heaven again; There intercedes, and thence will come * 1.11Among his Saints to reign.
* 1.12His Word says he will surely come, * 1.13Saints for his Coming pray, The whole Creation for it groans, * 1.14Ev'n so, LORD, come away.
