HYMN XXIX. [As the 100 Psalm.] (Book 29)

ETernal Father, how Divine, How Noble is this Gift of Thine! That Thou shouldst send thy only Son,* 1.1 Thy well-beloved, Holy One;* 1.2
The worthiest Object of thy Love,* 1.3 To leave his Throne and Crown above.* 1.4 To dwell with Mortals here below, And Death for them to undergo!
And Thou, Blest Saviour, who didst come* 1.5 So freely from thy Heav'nly home,* 1.6 To make thy Self a Sacrifice For thy unworthy Enemies▪

How full of Wonder is thy Love! * 1.7That Thou shouldst kindly choose to move From thy illustrious Palace, where The Heav'nly Host did Thee revere!
* 1.8Where Flaming Seraphs bow'd before Thy Awful Scepter, to adore Thy Holy Holy Holy Name, And thy Perfections to proclaim:
That all this Glory Thou shouldst leave, * 1.9A Vail of humane Flesh receive, * 1.10To live in Grief and Misery, And after all to bleed and die!
* 1.11To die a Death the most accurst, * 1.12And of all Deaths the very worst; * 1.13To be with lingring Torments slain, Abus'd with Scoffs and vile Disdain!
And all for sinful Us, that we * 1.14Holy and happy too might be; And with Thee in thy Kingdom reign, * 1.15When Thou, dear LORD, shalt come again!
