HYMN XVII. [As the 100 Psalm.] (Book 17)

* 1.1WHerewith shall I a sinful Worm Iehovah's Sanctu'ry draw nigh? With what Oblations shall I bow Before the Throne of God most High?
Shall I Burnt-Offerings to him bring, * 1.2Calves taken from their tender Dams? Will God be pleas'd, if I should slay A thousand and a thousand Rams?
Shall I upon his Altar pour Rivers of Oil ten thousand times, Or my First-born an Offering make, To expiate my odious Crimes?
* 1.3No—God is so incens'd by Sin, * 1.4Such Offerings all would be in vain, Too mean to save the guilty Soul, And purge it from so foul a Stain.
With broken Heart and fervent Cries, * 1.5Dear JESUS, to thy Cross I fly; Tho other Refuge fail, on Thee * 1.6My Soul with Safety can rely.

The Blood that issu'd from thy Wounds, Becomes both Oil and Wine to ours;* 1.7 No Ease, until thy Hand this Balm Into the wounded Conscience pours.* 1.8
As at thy Table we behold Thy All-sufficient Sacrifice, Let's feel the Virtue of thy Blood,* 1.9 Which heals, and chears, and purifies.* 1.10
So while our Feet stand in thy Courts, To Thee, O God, our Life and Joy,* 1.11 We'll bring the Sacrifice of Praise,* 1.12 In Praise our Hearts and Tongues employ.* 1.13
