Good endeavours assisted by God. [ 625]
IT much perplexed Mary, how she should roll away the Tomb stone, and so pur∣chase the sight of her beloved Master;* 1.1 but he that hath given his Angels charge over his children, that they hurt not their foot against a stone, sent a messenger from Heaven,* 1.2 to roll back that huge stone for her. Even as a loving Father, when he carryeth his little child to the Town, will let him alone to walk in the plain and fair way; but when he cometh to slippery paths, he takes him by the hand, and in dirty passages bears him in his armes, and when he comes to a style, he gently lifts him over:* 1.3 So God our heavenly Father useth his deer children, if they endeavour to go as far as they may in the wayes of his commandements, so fast as they can in the way to the coelestial Ierusalem, he will assist them in danger, and help them over styles of discouragements, take away all rubs of offence; remove all blocks and hindrances in their passage; and the very great stone parting Christ and them, e∣ven whilst they least think of it, shall be rolled away.
