THe heart of every believer is like a vessel with a narrow neck,* 1.1 which being
cast into the Sea is not filled at the first••asily, but by reason of the strait
passage receiveth water drop by drop. Thus God giveth unto us even a Sea of mercy,
but the same on our part is apprehended and received by little and little, we go from
strength to strength, from grace to grace, and from one degree of vertue to another,
praying alwayes as the blessed Apostles; O Lord encrease our faith, that from weak∣ness
of faith, and slender assurance, we may grow to firmness of the one, and ful∣ness of the other.
