God alone more powerfull then all the Ene∣mies of the World. [ 1630]
ANtigonus King of Syria being ready to give battel near the Isle of Andros,* 1.1 sent out a squadron to watch the motions of his Enemies, and to descry their strength, return was made, that they had more Ships, and better man'd then he was: How, sayes Antigonus, that cannot be, Quam multis meipsum opponis? For how many dost thou reckon me? intimating that the dignity of a Gene∣rall weighed down many others, especially when poysed with Valour and ex∣perience:* 1.2 And where is Valour? VVhere is Experience to be found if not in God? He is the Lord of Hosts with him alone is strength and power to deliver Israel out of all her troubles,* 1.3 he may do it, he can do it, he will do it, he is wise in heart and mighty in strength, besides him there is no Saviour, no deli∣verer, he is a shield to the Righteous,* 1.4 strength to the VVeak,* 1.5 a Refuge to the oppressed,* 1.6 he is instar omnium, all in all, and who is like unto him in all the VVorld?
