[ 1545] Carnal, Unregenerate Men, unserviceable both in Church and State.
IT is the fashion of some vain-glorious,* 1.1 Braggadochia-Courtiers, that when they go down into the Countrey, they do nothing but talk of what Friends they have in Court, what power they have with the Lord Protector, the Council of State, the Lords Commissioners, &c. filling their mouthes with the names of greatnesse and eminency; whereas indeed, they have neither command, nor the least of power to do any good, where they most pretend it. Such are all Carnal,* 1.2 unregenerate Men, let their pretences be never so specious, and their discourses never so Heavenly, they have no interest with God, no encouragement to appear before him, no knowledg or acquaintance in the Court of Heaven, and therefore no confidence to be helpfull or serviceable to the place or Common-weal wherein they live.
