LIke as vain man I downward grow,
My life is ever wasting;
I fall by fire, still waxing low,
As man did fall by tasting.
My house of Tallow doth decrease,
And I that am but Cotten,
Within one hour live and decease,
Am in the next forgotten.
O Lord, pour Oyl into my Lamp
To light me to thy home,
That when it shall extinguish't be,
I may a Star become.
