CHAP. XXI.
THen came David to Nob a 1.1 to Ahimelech the priest b 1.2, and * 1.3 Ahimelech was afraid at the meeting of David c 1.4, and said unto him, Why art thou alone, and no man with thee d 1.5?
2 And David said unto Ahimelech the priest, The King hath commanded me a business e 1.6, and hath said unto me, Let no man know any thing of the business whereabout I send thee, and what* 1.7 I have commanded thee: and I have appointed my servants † to such and such a place f 1.8.
3 Now therefore what is under thine hand g 1.9? give me five loaves of bread in mine hand, or what ‡ 1.10 there is ‡ 1.11 present.
4 And the priest answered David, and said, There is no common bread under mine hand h 1.12, but there is * 1.13 hallowed bread i 1.14 if the young men have kept themselves at least from women k 1.15.
5 And David answered the priest, and said unto him, Of a truth women have h•…•…en kept from us about these three days l 1.16, since I came out m 1.17, and the vessels n 1.18 of the young men are holy, and the bread is in a manner common o 1.19: ‖ 1.20 yea, though it were sanctified this day in the vessel p 1.21.
6 So the priest * 1.22 gave him hallowed bread, for there was no bread there p 1.23 but the shew-bread that was taken from before the LORD, to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away q 1.24.
