CHAP. XXIV.

1 WHen * 1.1 a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes a 1.2, because he hath found some † 1.3 uncleanness b 1.4 in her: then let him write her a bill of † 1.5 divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house c 1.6.

2 And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another mans wife d 1.7.

3 And if the later husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorcement, and giveth it her in her hand, and sendeth her out of his house: or if the later husband die, which took her to be his wife:

4 * 1.8 Her former husband, which sent her away, may not take her again e 1.9 to be his wife after that she is defiled f 1.10: for that is abomination before the LORD, and ‖ 1.11 thou shalt not cause the land to sin g 1.12, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.

5 * 1.13 When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, † 1.14 neither shall he be char∣ged with any business h 1.15: but he shall be free at home one year i 1.16, and shall chear up his wife which he hath taken.

6 No man shall take the nether or the upper milstone i 1.17 to pledge: for he taketh a mans † 1.18 life k 1.19 to pledge.

7 If a man be found stealing any of his brethren l 1.20 of the children of Israel, and maketh merchandise of him, or selleth him: then that thief shall die, and thou shalt put evil away from among you.

8 Take heed in * 1.21 the plague of leprosie, that thou observe diligently, and do according to all that the priests the Levites shall teach you: as I commanded them m 1.22, so ye shall observe to do.

9 Remember what the LORD thy God did * 1.23 unto Miriam n 1.24 by the way after that ye were come forth out of Egypt.

10 When thou doest † 1.25 lend thy brother any thing, thou shalt not go into his house to fetch his pledge o 1.26.

11 Thou shalt stand abroad, and the man to whom thou doest lend, shall bring out the pledg p 1.27 abroad unto thee.

12 And if the man be poor, thou shalt not sleep with his pledg q 1.28:

13 * 1.29 In any case thou shalt deliver him the pledg again, when the sun goeth down, that he may sleep in his own raiment, and * 1.30 bless thee r 1.31: and it shall be righteousness unto thee before the LORD thy God s 1.32.

14 Thou shalt not oppress an h•…•…ed servant t 1.33 that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy bre∣thren, or of thy strangers that are in thy land within thy gates.

15 At his day u 1.34 * 1.35 thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it x 1.36, for he is poor, and † 1.37 setteth his heart upon it u, lest he cry against thee unto the LORD, and it be sin unto thee.* 1.38

16 * 1.39 The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers z 1.40: every man shall be put to death for his own sin a 1.41.

17 * 1.42 Thou shalt not pervert the judgment of the stranger, nor of the fatherless b 1.43, * 1.44 nor take a widows raiment c 1.45 to pledg.

18 But thou shalt remember d 1.46 that thou wast a bond-man in Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee thence: therefore I command thee to do this thing e.

19 * 1.47 When thou cuttest down thine harvest in thy field, and hast forgot a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again to fetch it: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hands.

20 When thou beatest thine olive-tree f 1.48, † 1.49 thou shalt not go over the boughs again; it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the wi∣dow.

21 When thou gatherest the grapes of thy vine∣yard; thou shalt not glean it † 1.50 afterward: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.

22 And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bond-man in the land of Egypt: therefore I com∣mand thee to do this thing.
