CHAP. LVIII.

CRy † 1.1 aloud a 1.2, spare not b 1.3, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.

Yet they seek me daily c 1.4, and delight to know my ways d 1.5, as a nation that did righteousness e 1.6, and forsook not the † 1.7 ordinance of their God f 1.8: they ask of me the ordinances of justice g 1.9: they take delight h 1.10 in approaching to God i 1.11.

Wherefore have we fasted, say they, and thou seest not k 1.12? wherefore have we afflicted our soul l 1.13, and thou takest no knowledg? Behold, in the day of your fast m 1.14 ye find pleasure n 1.15, and exact all your ‖ 1.16 † 1.17 la∣bours o 1.18.

Behold, ye fast for strife and debate p 1.19, and to smite with the fist of wickedness q 1.20, ‖ 1.21 ye shall not fast as ye do this day, to make your voice r 1.22 to be heard on high.

Is it * 1.23 such a fast that I have chosen s 1.24? * 1.25 ‖ 1.26 a day t 1.27 for a man to afflict u 1.28 his soul x 1.29? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes un∣der him z 1.30? wilt thou call a 1.31 this a fast b 1.32, and an ac∣ceptable day to the LORD c 1.33? * 1.34

Is not this the fast that I have chosen d 1.35? to loose the bands of wickedness e 1.36, to undo † 1.37 the heavy bur∣dens f 1.38, and * 1.39 to let the † 1.40 oppressed h 1.41 go free g 1.42, and that ye break every yoke i 1.43?

Is it k 1.44 not * 1.45 to † 1.46 deal l 1.47 thy bread m 1.48 to the hun∣gry, and that thou bring n 1.49 the poor o 1.50 that are ‖ 1.51 cast out p 1.52, to thy house q 1.53? when thou seest the naked r 1.54, that thou cover him s 1.55, and that thou hide t 1.56 not thy self from thine own flesh u 1.57?

Then shall thy * 1.58 light x 1.59 break forth as the morning y 1.60, and thine health z 1.61 shall spring forth spee∣dily: and thy righteousness a 1.62 shall go before thee b 1.63, the * 1.64 glory c 1.65 of the LORD † 1.66 shall be thy rere∣ward d 1.67.

Then shalt thou call e, and the LORD shall answer f 1.68, thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am g 1.69: if thou take away from the midst h 1.70 of thee, the yoke i 1.71, the putting forth of the finger k 1.72, and speak∣ing vainly l 1.73. * 1.74

And if thou draw out m 1.75 thy soul n 1.76 to the hun∣gry, and satisfie o 1.77 the afflicted soul p 1.78; then shall thy light rise q 1.79 in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day r 1.80.

And the LORD shall guide thee s 1.81 continually, and satisfie thy soul * 1.82 in † 1.83 drought t 1.84, and ‖ 1.85 make fat thy bones u 1.86: and thou shalt be like a watered garden x 1.87, and like a spring of water, whose waters † 1.88 fail not y 1.89.

And they that shall be of thee z 1.90, * 1.91 shall build the old wast places a 1.92: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations b 1.93, and thou shalt be called c 1.94, The repairer of the breach d 1.95, the restorer of paths e 1.96 to dwell in f 1.97.

If thou turn away thy foot g 1.98 from the sab∣bath h 1.99, from doing thy pleasure i 1.100 on my holy day k 1.101, and call the sabbath a delight l 1.102, the holy of the LORD m 1.103, honourable n 1.104, and shalt honour him, not do∣ing thine own ways o 1.105, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words p 1.106.

Then shalt thou delight thy self q 1.107 in the LORD, and I will cause thee to * 1.108 ride upon the high places of the earth r 1.109, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob s 1.110 thy father; for the mouth of the LORD t 1.111 hath spo∣ken it.
