CHAP. XXIX

1. ‖ 1.1 WO to Ariel a 1.2, to Ariel ‖ 1.3 the city where David dwelt b 1.4: add ye year to year; let them † 1.5 kill sacrifices c 1.6.

2. Yet d 1.7 I will distress Ariel e 1.8, and there shall be heaviness and sorrow, and it shall be unto me as Ariel f 1.9.

3. And I will camp against thee ‖ 1.10 round a∣bout, and will lay siege against thee g 1.11 ‖ 1.12 with a mount, and I will raise forts against thee.

4. And thou shalt be brought down, and shalt speak out of the ground, and thy speech shall be low out of the dust h 1.13, and thy voice shall be as of one that hath a familiar spirit out of the ground z 1.14, and thy speech shall † 1.15 whisper out of the dust.

5. Moreover, the multitude of thy strangers a 1.16 shall be like small dust b 1.17, and the multitude of the terrible ones shall be * 1.18 as chaff that passeth away: yea it shall be c 1.19 at * 1.20 an instant suddenly.* 1.21

6. Thou d 1.22 shalt be visited of the LORD of hosts with thunder, and with earthquake, and great noise, with storm and tempest, and the flame of devouring fire e 1.23.

7. And the multitude of all the nations that fight against Ariel, even all that fight against her, and her munition, and that distress her, shall be as a dream of a night vision f 1.24.

8. It shall even be as when a hungry man dreameth, and behold he eateth; but he awaketh, and his soul is empty g 1.25: or as when a thirsty man dreameth, and behold he drinketh; but he awaketh, and behold he is faint, and his soul hath appetite: so shall the multitude of all the nations be, that fight against mount Zion h 1.26.

9. Stay your selves and wonder i 1.27, ‖ 1.28 cry ye out, and cry k 1.29: they are drunken, but not with wine l 1.30; they stagger, but not with strong drink.

10. For * 1.31 the LORD hath poured out upon you m 1.32 the spirit of dead sleep n 1.33, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your † 1.34 rulers, the seers o 1.35 hath he covered p 1.36.

11. And the vision of all q 1.37 is become unto you, as the words of a ‖ 1.38 book that is sealed r 1.39, which men deliver to one that is learned, say∣ing,

Read this, I pray thee; and he saith, I cannot, for it is sealed:

12. And the book is delivered to him that is not learned s 1.40, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.

13. Wherefore the LORD said, * 1.41 Forasmuch as this people draw near me t 1.42 with their mouth, and with their lips u 1.43 do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me x 1.44, and their fear towards me is taught by the precept of men y 1.45:

14. Therefore behold, † 1.46 I will proceed to do a marvellous work amongst this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder, * 1.47 for the wis∣dom of their wise men shall perish, and the un∣derstanding of their prudent men shall be hid z 1.48.

15. * 1.49 Wo unto them that seek deep a 1.50 to hide their counsel from the LORD b 1.51, and their works are in the dark c 1.52, and * 1.53 they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us d 1.54?

16. Surely your turning of things upside down e 1.55 shall be esteemed as the potters clay f 1.56: for shall the * 1.57 work say of him that made it, He made me not, or shall the thing framed, say of him that framed it, He had no understanding g 1.58?

17. Is it not yet a very little while, and Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field: and the fruit∣ful field shall be esteemed * 1.59 as a forrest? * 1.60

18. And in that day shall * 1.61 the deaf i 1.62 hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and 〈◊〉〈◊〉 of dark∣ness k 1.63.

19. The meek l 1.64 also † 1.65 shall increase their joy in the LORD m 1.66, and the poor n 1.67 among men shall rejoyce in the holy one of Israel.

20. For the terrible one o 1.68 is brought to nought, and the scorner p 1.69 is consumed, and all that watch for iniquity q 1.70 are cut off:

21. * 1.71 That make a man an offender r 1.72 for a word s 1.73, and lay a snare for him that repro∣veth t 1.74 in the gate u 1.75, and turn aside x 1.76 the just y 1.77 for a thing of nought z 1.78.

22. Therefore thus saith the LORD, who re∣deemed Abraham a 1.79, concerning the house of Ia∣cob, Iacob b 1.80 shall not now be ashamed, neither shall his face now wax pale c 1.81.

23. But when he seeth his children d 1.82, the work of mine hands e 1.83, in the midst of him f 1.84, they shall sanctify my name, g 1.85, and sanctify the holy one of Iacob, and shall fear the God of Is∣rael.

24. They also that erred in spirit h 1.86 † 1.87 shall come to understanding i 1.88, and they that Murmu∣red, shall learn doctrine k 1.89.
