CHAP. XXXII.
1 AND when the people saw that Moses de∣layed to come down out of the mount a 1.1, the people b 1.2 gathered themselves toge∣ther unto Aaron c 1.3, and said unto him, * 1.4 Up, make us gods d 1.5 which shall go before us e 1.6: for as for this Moses f 1.7, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him g 1.8.
2 And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden ear-rings h 1.9 which are in the ears of your wives i 1.10, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me.
3 And all the people brake off the golden ear∣rings k 1.11 which were in their ears l 1.12, and brought them unto Aaron.
4 * 1.13 And he received them at their hand, and fa∣shioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf m 1.14, and they said, These be thy gods n 1.15, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
5 And when Aaron saw o 1.16 it he built an altar before it, and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the LORD p 1.17.
6 And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt-offerings, and brought peace-offer∣ings q 1.18: and the * 1.19 people sat down to eat and to drink r 1.20 and rose up to play s 1.21.
7 And the LORD said unto Moses, * 1.22 Go, get thee down: for thy people t 1.23 which thou brought∣est out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves.
8 They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, * 1.24 These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
9 And the LORD said unto Moses, * 1.25 I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stiff-necked people u 1.26.
10 Now therefore let me alone x 1.27, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and * 1.28 I will make of thee y 1.29 a great nation.
11 * 1.30 And Moses besought † 1.31 the LORD his God z 1.32, and said, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot a 1.33 against thy people b 1.34, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt, with great power and with a mighty hand?
