CHAP. XIX.

IN the third month a 1.1 when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day b 1.2 * 1.3 came they into the wilderness of Sinai.

For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the desert of Sinai c 1.4, and had pitched in the wilderness, and there Israel camp∣ed before the mount.

And * 1.5 Moses went up to God d 1.6: and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel:

* 1.7 Ye have seen what I did unto the Egypti∣ans, and how I bare you on Eagles wings e 1.8, and brought you unto my self f 1.9.

Now * 1.10 therefore if ye will obey my voice indeed g 1.11 and keep my Covenant, then * 1.12 ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me h 1.13 above all people: for * 1.14 all the earth is mine i 1.15.

And ye shall be unto me a * 1.16 kingdom of Priests k 1.17, and an holy nation l 1.18. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

And Moses came and called for the Elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the LORD commanded him.

And * 1.19 all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken, we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD m 1.20.

And the LORD said unto Moses, •…•…o, I come unto thee n 1.21 in a thick cloud o 1.22, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and * 1.23 believe thee for ever: and Moses told the words of the people p 1.24 unto the LORD.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Go unto

the people, and Sanctifie them q 1.25 to day; and to morrow, and let them * 1.26 wash their cloaths r 1.27.

And be ready against the third day: for the third day s 1.28 the LORD * 1.29 will come down t 1.30 in the sight of all the people, upon mount Sinai.

And thou shalt set bounds to the people round about, saying, Take heed to your selves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: * 1.31 whosoever toucheth the mount, shall be surely put to death u 1.32.

There shall not a hand touch it x 1.33, but he shall surely be stoned or shot through, whether it be beast y 1.34 or man, it shall not live: when the ‖ 1.35 trumpet soundeth long z 1.36, they shall come up to the mount a 1.37.

And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people b 1.38, and they washed their cloaths.

And he said unto the people, Be ready a∣gainst the third day, * 1.39 come not at your wives c 1.40.

And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were * 1.41 thunders and light∣nings d 1.42, and a thick cloud e 1.43 upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet f 1.44 exceeding loud, so that all the people g 1.45 that was in the camp, trembled.

And * 1.46 Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the nether part of the mount h 1.47.

And * 1.48 mount Sinai was altogether on a smoak, because the LORD descended upon it in fire i 1.49, and the smoak thereof ascended as the smoak of a furnace, and * 1.50 the whole mount quaked greatly k 1.51.

And when the voice of the trumpet sound∣ed long, and waxed louder and louder l 1.52, Moses spake, and * 1.53 God answered him by a voice m 1.54.

And the LORD came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mount n 1.55: and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mount, and Mo∣ses went up.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Go down, † 1.56 charge the people, le•…•…t they break through unto the LORD to gaze o 1.57, and many of them perish.

And let the Priests p 1.58 also which come near to the LORD q 1.59 sanctifie themselves, lest the LORD break forth upon them.

And Moses said unto the LORD, The peo∣ple cannot come up r 1.60 to mount Sinai, for thou chargedst us, saying, Set bounds about the mount, and sanctifie it.

And the LORD said unto him, Away, get thee down, and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the Priests and the people break through, to come up unto the LORD, lest he break forth upon them.

So Moses went down unto the people, and spake unto them.
