PSAL. XXXV.
The ARGUMENT.

This Psalm was Penned by David, when he was s•…•…andred and persecuted by Saul and his Servants, as is manifest from the whole Body of it.

A Psalm of David.

1. PLead * 1.1 my cause, O LORD a 1.2, with them that † 1.3 strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.

2. Take hold of shield and buckler b 1.4, and stand up for mine help.

3. Draw out also the spear c 1.5, and stop the may d 1.6 against them that persecute me: say unto my soul e 1.7, I am thy salvation.

4. * 1.8 Let them be confounded f 1.9 and put to shame, that seek after my soul; let them * 1.10 be turned back g 1.11, and brought to confusion, that devise my hurt.

5. * 1.12 Let them be as chaff before the wind h 1.13: and let the angel of the LORD i 1.14 chase them.

6. Let their way k 1.15 be † 1.16 * 1.17 dark and slippery l 1.18, and let the angel of the LORD persecute them.

7. For without cause m 1.19 have they hid for me their net, in a pit, which without cause they digged for my soul n 1.20.

8. Let destruction come upon him o 1.21 † 1.22 at una∣wares, and * 1.23 let his net that he hath hid, catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall.

9. And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD p 1.24: it shall rejoyce in his salvation.

10. All my bones q 1.25 shall say r 1.26, LORD, who is like unto thee, which deliverest the poor that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him!

11. False † 1.27 witnesses did rise up; † 1.28 they laid to my charge things that I knew not s 1.29.

12. * 1.30 They rewarded me evil for good t 1.31, to the † 1.32 spoiling of my soul u 1.33.

13. But as for me, * 1.34 when they were sick x 1.35, my clothing was saccloth y 1.36: I ‖ 1.37 humbled my soul z 1.38 with fasting, and my prayer returned into mine own bosom a 1.39.

14. I † 1.40 behaved my self b 1.41 † 1.42 as though he had been my friend, Or brother: I bowed down c 1.43 heavily, as one that mourneth for his mother d 1.44.

15. But in mine † 1.45 adversity e 1.46 they rejoyced, and gathered themselves together f 1.47: * 1.48 yea, the abjects g 1.49, gathered themselves together a∣gainst me, and I knew it not h 1.50; they did tear me i 1.51, and ceased not k 1.52.

16. With hypocritical l 1.53 mockers m 1.54 in † 1.55 feasts n 1.56: they gnashed upon me with their teeth o 1.57.

17. LORD, how long wilt thou look on o 1.58? rescue my soul from their destructions, † 1.59 my darling p 1.60 from * 1.61 the lions.

18. * 1.62 I will give thee thanks in the great con∣gregation q 1.63: I will praise thee among * much people.* 1.64

19. Let not them that are mine enemies † 1.65 wrongfully rejoyce over me, neither let them wink with their eye r 1.66, * 1.67 that hate me without a cause.

20. For they speak not peace s 1.68: but they de∣vise deceitful matters t 1.69 against them that are quiet in the land u 1.70.

21. Yea, they opened their mouth wide a∣gainst me x 1.71, and said * 1.72 Aha, aha y 1.73, our eye hath seen it z.

22. This thou hast seen a 1.74, O LORD, keep not silence b: O LORD, be not far from me c 1.75.

23. Stir up thy self and awake to my judg∣ment, even unto my cause d 1.76, my God and my Lord.

24. Judge me, O LORD my God, accord∣ing to thy righteousness e 1.77, and let them not re∣joyce over me.

25. Let them not say in their hearts, † 1.78 Ah, so would we have it f 1.79: let them not say, we have swallowed him up.

26. * 1.80 Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together g 1.81, that rejoyce at mine hurt: let them be clothed with shame and disho∣nour, that magnifie themselves h 1.82 against me.

27. Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour † 1.83 my righteous cause i 1.84: yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified k 1.85, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his ser∣vant.

28. And my tongue shall speak of thy righte∣ousness, and of thy praise, all the day long.
