CHAP. XV.

ANd David made him houses a 1.1 in the city of David, and prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched for it a tent b 1.2.

Then David said, † 1.3 None ought to carry the * 1.4 ark of God but the Levites c 1.5: for them the LORD hath chosen to carry the ark of God, and to minister unto him for ever d 1.6.

And David gathered all Israel together to Je∣rusalem, to bring up the ark of the LORD unto his place which he had prepared for it.

And David assembled the children of Aaron, and the Levites.

Of the sons of Kohath e 1.7; Uriel the chief, and his ‖ 1.8 brethren an hundred and twenty.

Of the sons of Merari; Asajah the chief, and his brethren two hundred and twenty.

Of the sons of Gershom; Joel the chief, and his brethren an hundred and thirty.

Of the sons of Elizaphan; Shemajah the chief, and his brethren two hundred.

Of the sons of Hebron; Eliel the chief, and his brethren sourscore.

Of the sons of Uzziel; Amminadab the chief, and his brethren an hundred and twelve.

And David called for Zadok, and Abiathar the priests f 1.9, and for the Levites, for Uriel, Asa∣jah, and Joel, Shemajah, and Eliel, and Ammi∣nadab;

And said unto them, Ye are the chief of the fathers of the Levites: sanctifie your selves g 1.10, both ye and your brethren, that ye may bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel unto the place that I have prepared for it.

For * 1.11 because ye did it not at the first h 1.12, the LORD our God made a breach upon us, for that we i 1.13 sought him not after the due order k 1.14.

So the Priests and the Levites sanctified themselves, to bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel.

And the children of the Levites l 1.15 bare the ark of God upon their shoulders, with the staves thereon, as * 1.16 Moses commanded, according to the word of the LORD.

And David spake to the chief of the Levites, to appoint their brethren to be the singers, with in∣struments of musick, psalteries, and harps, and cymbals, † 1.17 sounding, by lifting up the voice with joy.

So the Levites appointed * 1.18 Heman the son of Joel: and of his brethren, * 1.19 and Asaph the son of Berechiah, and of the sons of Merari their bre∣thren, * 1.20 Elthan the son of Kushajah.

And with them their brethren of the second degree m 1.21, Zechariah, Ben, and Jaaziel, and Shemi∣ramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, Eliab, and Benajah, and Maasiah, and Mattithlah, and Eliphalet, and Mikniah, and Obed-edom, and Jeiel the porters n 1.22.

So the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were appointed to sound with cymbals of brass.

And Zechariah o 1.23, and Aziel, and Shemira∣moth, and Jehiel, and Unni, and Eliab, and Maa∣siah, and Benajah, with Psalteries on Alamoth p 1.24.

And Mattithiah, and Eliphaleh, and Mik∣neiah, and Obed-edom, and Jeiel, and Azaziah, with harps ‖ 1.25 on the Sheminith q 1.26 to excel r 1.27.

And Chenaniah chief of the Levites ‖ 1.28 was for ‖ 1.29 song s 1.30: he instructed about the song, because he was skilful.

And Berechiah, and Elkanah were door-keep∣ers for the ark t 1.31.

And Shebaniah, and Jehoshaphat, and Na∣thaneel, and Amasai, and Zechariah, and Benajah, and Eliezer the priests * 1.32 did blow with the trum∣pets before the ark of God: and Obed-edom and Jehiah were door-keepers for the ark.

So * 1.33 David and the elders of Israel, and the captains over thousands, went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD, out of the house of Obed-edom with joy.

And it came to pass when God helped the Levites u 1.34 that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, that they offered seven bullocks, and se∣ven rams.

And David was clothed with a robe of fine linen x 1.35, and all the Levites that bare the ark, and the singers, and Chenaniah the master of the † 1.36 song with the singers. David also had upon him an ephod of linen.

Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, and with sound of the cornet, and with trumpets, and with cymbals, making a noise with psalteries, and harps.

And it came to pass as the ark of the cove∣nant of the LORD came to the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul, looking out at a win∣dow, saw king David dancing and playing, and she despised him in her heart.
