CHAP. IV.

1. AND Adam knew a 1.1 Eve his Wife, and she Conceived and bare Cain b 1.2, and said, I have gotten a Man c 1.3 from the LORD d 1.4.

2. And she again bare his Brother † 1.5 Abel e 1.6: and Abel was † 1.7 a Keeper of Sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground f 1.8.

3. And † 1.9 in * 1.10 process of time g 1.11 it came to pass, that Cain brought h 1.12 of the fruit of the ground, an offering unto the LORD.

4. And Abel, he also brought of the Firstlings i 1.13 of his † 1.14 Flock, and of the fat thereof k 1.15. And the LORD had * 1.16 respect l 1.17 unto Abel m 1.18 and to his offering.

5. But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect: And Cain was very wroth n 1.19, and his coun∣tenance fell o 1.20.

6. And the LORD said unto Cain p 1.21, why art thou wroth? and * 1.22 why is thy countenance fallen q 1.23?

7. If thou doest well r 1.24, shalt thou not ‖ 1.25 be ac∣cepted s 1.26? And if thou doest not well sin lieth at the door t 1.27: And ‖ 1.28 unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him u 1.29.

8. And Cain † 1.30 talked with Abel his Brother x 1.31: And it came to pass, when they were in the Field y 1.32, that Cain rose up against Abel his Brother, and * 1.33 slew him z 1.34.

9. And the LORD said unto Cain, where is Abel a 1.35 thy Brother b 1.36? And he said, I know not: Am I my Brothers Keeper c 1.37?

10. And he said, what hast thou done d 1.38? The voice of thy brothers † 1.39 Blood e 1.40 * 1.41 crieth unto me from the ground f 1.42.

11. And now art thou cursed g 1.43 from the Earth h 1.44, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy Bro∣thers blood from thy hand i 1.45.

12. When thou tillest the ground k 1.46 it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength l 1.47. A fugitive and vagabond m 1.48 shalt thou be in the Earth.

13, And Cain said unto the LORD, ‖ 1.49 my punish∣ment n 1.50 is greater than I can bear.

14. Behold o 1.51, thou hast driven me out p 1.52 this day from the face of the Earth q 1.53, * and from thy face r 1.54 shall I be hid, and I shall be a fugitive, and a vaga∣bond in the Earth: And it shall come to pass that every one that findeth me shall slay me s 1.55.

15. And the LORD said unto him, therefore t 1.56 whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold u 1.57. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain x 1.58, lest any finding him should kill him.

16. And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD y 1.59, and dwelt in the Land of Nod z 1.60, on the East of Eden.

17. And Cain knew his Wife a 1.61, and she conceiv∣ed and bare † 1.62 Enoch, and he built a City b 1.63, and cal∣led the Name of the City after the name of his Son Enoch c 1.64.

18. And unto Enoch was born Irad: And Irad be∣gat Mehujael, and Mehujael begat Methusael, and Methusael begat † 1.65 Lamech.

19. And Lamech d 1.66 took unto him two Wives e 1.67, the Name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.

20. And Adah bare Iubal: He was the Father of such as dwell in Tents f 1.68, and of such as have Cattle g 1.69.

21. And his Brothers name was Iubal: He was the Father of all such as handle the Harp and Organ h 1.70.

22. And Zillah she also bare Tubal-Cain i 1.71, an † 1.72 Instructer of every Artificer in Brass, and Iron k 1.73: And the Sister of Tubal-Cain was Naamah l 1.74.

23. And Lamech said unto his Wives, Adah, and Zillah m 1.75, Hear my voice, ye Wives of Lamech, hear∣ken unto my speech: For ‖ 1.76 I have slain a man to my wounding, and † 1.77 a young man ‖ 1.78 to my hurt n 1.79.

24. If Cain shall be avenged o 1.80 seven-fold, truly Lamech seventy and seven-fold p 1.81.

25. And Adam knew his Wife again, and she bare a Son, and called his name † 1.82 Seth q 1.83: For God, said she r 1.84, hath appointed me another seed s 1.85 in stead of Abel t 1.86, whom Cain slew.

26. And to Seth, to him also there was born a Son; and he called his name † 1.87 Enos u 1.88, then began men ‖ 1.89 to call upon the Name of the LORD x 1.90.
