CHAP. XLIX.

1 AND Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather your selves together that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last dayes a 1.1.

2 Gather your selves together, and hear ye sons of Jacob, and hearken unto Israel your father.

3 Reuben thou art my first-born, my might, and the beginning of my strength b 1.2, the excellen∣cy of dignity, and the excellency of power c 1.3.

4 Unstable as water d 1.4 † 1.5 thou shalt not excel e 1.6, because thou * 1.7 wentest up to thy fathers bed, then defiledst thou it f 1.8. ‖ 1.9 He went up to my couch g 1.10. * 1.11

5 * 1.12 Simeon and Levi are brethren h 1.13, ‖ 1.14 instru∣ments of cruelty are in their habitations i 1.15.

6 O my soul, come not thou into their secret k 1.16: unto their assembly mine honour l 1.17 be not thou united: for in their anger they slew a man m 1.18, and in their self-will n 1.19 they ‖ 1.20 digged down a wall o 1.21.

7 Cursed be p 1.22 their anger, for it was fierce, and their wrath, for it was cruel: I * 1.23 will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel q 1.24.

17 Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an † 1.58 ad∣der in the path x 1.59, that biteth the horse heels, so that his rider shall fall backward.

18 I have waited for thy salvation, O LORD y 1.60.

19 Gad, troup z 1.61 shall overcome him: but he shall overcome at the last a 1.62.

20 Out of Asher b 1.63, his bread shall be fat c 1.64, and he shall yield royal dainties d 1.65.

21 Naphtali is a hind let loose e 1.66: he giveth goodly words f 1.67.

22 Joseph is a fruitful bough g 1.68, even a fruit∣ful bough by a well h 1.69, whose † 1.70 branches run o∣ver the wall i 1.71.

23 The archers k 1.72 have sorely grieved him l 1.73, and shot at him, and hated him:

24 But * 1.74 his bow l 1.75 abode in strength, and the armes of his hands were made strong, by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob m 1.76: from thence is the Shepherd, the stone of Israel n 1.77.

25 Even by the God of thy father o 1.78, who shall help thee, and by the Almighty, who shall bless thee, with blessings of heaven above p 1.79, blessings of the deep that lieth under q 1.80, blessings of the breasts and of the womb r 1.81.

26 The blessings of thy father have prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors s 1.82; unto the utmost bound of the everlasting hills t 1.83, they shall be ‖ 1.84 on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him that was separate from his brethren u 1.85.

27 Benjamin shall ravine as a wolf x 1.86: in the morning he shall devour the prey: and at night he shall divide the spoil y 1.87.

28 All these are the twelve tribes z 1.88 of Israel, and this is it that their father spake unto them, and blessed them: every one according to his blessing a 1.89 he blessed them.

29 And he charged them, and said unto them, I am to be gathered unto my people: * 1.90 bury me with my Fathers b 1.91, in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite.

30 In the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is before Mamre c 1.92, in the land of Canaan, * 1.93 which Abraham bought with the field of Ephron the Hittite, for a possession of a burying-place.

31 (* 1.94 There they buryed Abraham, and Sarah his wife, there they buried Isaac and Rebekah his wife, and there I buried Leah.)

32 The purchase of the field, and of the cave that is therein, was from the children of Heth.

33 And when Jacob had made an end of com∣manding his sons d 1.95, he gathered up his feet into bed e, and yielded up the ghost, and was gathered unto his people.
