CHAP. XXXV.

1 AND God said unto Jacob a 1.1, Arise, go up to Beth-el, and dwell there: and make there an Altar unto God * 1.2 that appear∣ed unto thee, * 1.3 when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother b 1.4.

2 Then Jacob said unto his houshold, and to all that were with him; Put away the * 1.5 strange gods c 1.6 that are among you d 1.7, and be clear e 1.8, and change your garments f 1.9.

3 And let us arise, and go up to Beth-el, and I will make there an Altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress g 1.10, and was with me in the way which I went.

4 And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their ear∣rings which were in their ears h 1.11, and Jacob hid them i 1.12 under the * 1.13 Oak k 1.14 which was by She∣chem.

5 And they journeyed: and * 1.15 the terror of God l 1.16 was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.

6 So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan m 1.17 (that is Beth-el) he and all the peo∣ple that were with him.

7 And he built there an Altar, and * 1.18 called the place ‖ 1.19 El-beth-el n 1.20, because there God appear∣ed unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother.

8 But Deborah Rebekahs nurse o 1.21 died, and she was buried beneath Beth-el under an oak: and the name of it was called ‖ 1.22 Allon-bachuth p 1.23.

9 And God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came out of Padan-Aram, and blessed him.

10 And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, * 1.24 but Israel shall be thy name q 1.25, and he called his name Israel.

11 And God said unto him, * 1.26 I am God Al∣mighty: be fruitful and multiply, * 1.27 a Nation, and a company of nations r 1.28 shall be of thee: and Kings shall come out of thy Ioyns s 1.29.

12 And the land * 1.30 which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give this land.

13 And God went up from him t 1.31 in the place where he talked with him.

14 And Jacob set up a pillar u 1.32 in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of stone: and he powred a drink-offering x 1.33 there∣on, and he poured oyl thereon.

15 And Jacob called the name of the place where God spake with him, * 1.34 Beth-el.

16 And they journeyed from Bethel: and there was but * 1.35 a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour.

17 And it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not: thou shalt have this son also.

18 And it came to pass, as her soul was in de∣parting y 1.36, (for she died) that she called his name ‖ 1.37 Ben-oni: but his father called him † 1.38 Benja∣min z 1.39.

19 And * 1.40 Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath a 1.41; which is Bethlehem.

20 And Jacob set a pillar b 1.42 upon her grave: that is the pillar of Rachels grave unto this day c 1.43.

21 And Israel journeyed, and spread his tent be∣yond the tower of Edar d 1.44.

22 And it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went, and * 1.45 lay with Bil∣hah his fathers concubine e 1.46: and Israel heard it f 1.47. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve g 1.48.

23 The sons of Leah: * 1.49 Reuben Jacobs first∣born, and Simeon and Levi, and Judah, and Issa∣char, and Zebulun.

24 The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.

25 And the sons of Bilhah, Rachels handmaid, Dan and Naphtali.

26 And the sons of Zilpah, Leahs handmaid, Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob which were born to him in Padan-Aram h 1.50.

27 And Jacob came unto Isaac i 1.51 his father un∣to * 1.52 Mamre, unto the City of Arbah (which is Hebron) where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.

28 And the days of Isaac were an hundred and fourscore years.

29 And Isaac gave up the ghost, and died, and was * 1.53 gathered unto his people k 1.54, being old and full of dayes: and his sons Esau and Jacob buryed him.
