And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egypti∣an, which she had born unto Abraham, mock∣ing i 1.14:

Wherefore she said unto Abraham k 1.15, * 1.16 cast out this bond-woman l 1.17 and her son, for the son of this bond-woman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac.

And the thing was very grievous in Abra∣hams sight m 1.18, because of his son n 1.19.

And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight, because of the lad, and be∣cause of thy bond-woman o 1.20: in all that Sarah hath said unto thee hearken unto her voice: for in * 1.21 Isaac shall thy seed p 1.22 be called q 1.23.

And also of the son of the bond-woman, will I make a * 1.24 nation, because he is thy seed.

And Abraham rose up early in the morn∣ing r 1.25, and took bread s 1.26, and a bottle of water, and gave it unto Hagar (putting it on her shoulder) and the child, and sent her away t 1.27: and she de∣parted, and wandred in the wilderness of Beer∣sheba u 1.28.

And the water was spent in the bottle, and she cast the child x 1.29 under one of the shrubs.

And she went, and sat her down over against him, a good way off, as it were a bow-shot: for she said, let me not see the death of the child. And she sat over against him, and lift up her voice and wept y 1.30.

And God heard the voice of the lad z 1.31, and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, what aileth thee, Hagar? fear not: for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is a 1.32.

Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand: for I will make him a great nation.* 1.33

Now therefore swear unto me here by God, † 1.41 that thou wilt not deal falsly with me k 1.42, nor with my son, nor with my sons son, but accord∣ing to the kindness that I have done unto thee, thou shalt do unto me, and to the land wherein thou hast sojourned.

And Abraham said, I will swear l 1.43.

And Abraham reproved Abimelech m 1.44, be∣cause of a well of water n 1.45 which Abimelechs ser∣vants had violently taken away.

And Abimelech said, I wot not who hath done this thing: neither didst thou tell me, nei∣ther yet heard I of it, but to day o 1.46.

And Abraham took sheep and oxen, and gave them unto Abimelech p 1.47: and both of them made a covenant.

And Abraham set seven ew-lambs of the flock by themselves.

And Abimelech said unto Abraham, what mean these seven ew-lambs, which thou hast set by themselves?

And he said, For these seven ew-lambs, shalt thou take of my hand, that they may be a witness unto me, that I have digged this well q 1.48.

Wherefore he called that place ‖ 1.49 Beer-she∣ba r 1.50, because there they sware both of them.

Thus they made a covenant at Beer-sheba: then Abimelech rose up, and Phicol the chief cap∣tain of his host, and they returned into the land of the Philistines s 1.51.
