Sampire, in Latin
Crithmum marinum.
'Tis a
very juicy Herb, it spreads
much, and is about a Foot
high. The Leaves are
broader and shorter than
those of Fennel; and they
are thicker, and not so
much cut; they are of a
deep green Colour, and of
a saltish Taste. The Stalk
is as green as a Leek. The
Root is thick, long, and
lasting; and of a sweet,
acrid and Aromatick Taste.
Sampire pickled is very
palatable, and agreeable to
the Stomach. It provokes
Urine moderately, and
opens Obstructions of the
Bowels, and excites Appe∣tite.
