Of the Bishops of the ISLE of MAN.

This Bishoprick of the Isle of Man was first erect∣ed by Pope Gregory 4. The Bishops See is in Russin or Castle-Town, and the Bishops are termed in La∣tine Episcopi Sodorenses. The VVestern Islands (now belonging to Scotland) who have now a Bishop of their own, did anciently belong to this Bishoprick. The new Bishop (upon a vacancy) is nominated by the Lords of the Isle (who have been the Stanleys Earles of Darby) and presented to the King, and then consecrated by the Archbishop of York. And this seemeth to be the cause why the Bishop of Man is no Lord of the Parlament, be∣cause it is not at the Kings disposing, none having Suf∣frage in Parlament but those who hold immediate∣ly from the King.

The Names of the Bishops of this See are not exactly known, having (as yet) no meanes to procure a Cata∣logue thereof: such as are extant are these.
