§. 54. Of Christ called a Priest after the most excellent Order.

Verse 10.
Called of God an Highpriest, after the order of Melchised•…•…c.

THis verse is added as a conclusion of what the Apostle had said concerning the acts and ends of Christs Priesthood; which were such as could agree to none of the Priests under the Law: so as he must needs be a Priest after a more excel∣lent order then the order of Aaron. This he had shewed before, v. 6. to be the 〈◊〉〈◊〉 of Melchisedec, and thereupon concludeth that he is called of God an High-Priest after this order. The Greek word translated a 1.1 called, is a compound; here only used in the New Testament. It signifies a free, open acknowledging one; and 〈◊〉〈◊〉 it were by name calling him.

This act is ascribed to God in this phrase, Called of God; and implieth that God 〈◊〉〈◊〉 Christ unto this excellent Priesthood. As was noted before, §. 24, 27.

Of this phrase, After the order of Melchisedec, See v. 6. §. 30.
