also to build us a Shallop instead of that
which we had lost at St. Anne's.All-Saints may be reckoned for one of
the largest,A Descrip∣tion of All-Saints Bay. finest, and most convenient
Bay of any other in the World, being
capable of containing no less than two
thousand Ships; of a very good Depth,
and no Winds to be feared there. They
take a great Number of Whales therein,
build very fine Ships, and they had one
then upon the Stocks that would carry
sixty pieces of Cannon.As for the City of St. Salvador, that
is seated upon this Bay, it's large, well
built, and very populous; but the Scitua∣tion
of it is not so advantagious, as
could be wished. It's high and low,
and scarce one straight Street therein;
it's the Capital City of Brasil, an Ar∣chiepiscopal
See, and the Residence of
the Vice-Roy: This place is honoured
with a Soveraign Council, and the Pri∣vilege
to coin Money; where, in order
to quicken Trade, they make such sort
of Pieces as are current no-where else,
but in Brasil: They have on the one
side the Arms of Portugal, and a Cross
charged with a Spear on the other, with
this Inscription, SƲBQ. SIGN. STABO.0
