Consimilia Brevia diriguntur subscriptis; viz.
Upon the Contention and Debate had and moved, and of long time depending between the Ancestors of the Lord Clifford and the Lord Fitz-Walter, for their Seats in the Parliament Chamber the Tenth day of June, the Year of our Lord MDXXIIII. and of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord King Henry the Eighth the Sixteenth; It was decreed, ordained and concluded, by the most Reverend Fa∣ther in God the Lord Thomas Wulcy, Cardinal, Legate de Latere, and Chancelor of England; and by the advice of other Lords, both Spiritual and Temporal, there being present; upon certain old and ancient Presidents, and other of later days to them shewed; as well by Gartier, Principal King of Arms, as by the Clerk of the Parlia∣ment; That the Lord Clifford should enjoy and keep the place and room next above the Lord Fitz-Walter; with a Proviso, That if at any season, from that time forth, the Lord Fitz-Walter, by matter of Record could find, that his Ancestors were more ancient Barons than the Ancestors of the said Lord Clifford were; that then, that his Decree should not be unto the said Lord Fitz-Walter prejudicial: but at all times his claim to be heard, and his Title to be deter∣mined according to right, and the Order of the said Parliament Chamber.
