ROger de Busli,* 1.1 being possesseda 1.2 of divers Lordships in the Conquerors time; viz. one in ••evonshire, eight in Der∣byshire, five in Leicestershire, forty nine in Yorkshire, and fourscore and six in Noting∣hamshire, had his principal residence at Tik∣hill Castle in Yorkshire: And at Blythe (near Tikhill) on the confi••es of Notingham∣shire, where he also hadb 1.3 another Castle, in 2 Will. Rufi, foundedc 1.4 a Priory for Benedictine Monks, which he annexedd 1.5 as a Cell to the Abby of St. Catherines on the Mount near Ro∣an, in Normandy.
This Roger gavee 1.6 also to the Monks of St. Peters at Gloucester, his Lordship of Clif∣ford: and surviving King Henry the first, stood firmf 1.7 to his Daughter Maud the Empress: for which respect King Stephen seizedg 1.8 upon his Castle of Tickhill, and the whole Honor of Blithe; and gaveh 1.9 them to Ranulph then Earl of Chester.
To Roger succeededi 1.10 Richard de Builli* 1.11 (Son to Roger I presume) who in Anno 1147. (12 Steph.) founded Roche Abby, in Yorkshire; and with the consentl 1.12 of Emme his Wife, gavem 1.13 to the Monks of Kirkestede, in Lincolnshire, a certain place lying within the territory of Kym∣berworth, for the making of two Furnaces, to melt Iron: and two Forges for making it into Bars; as also all his dead Wood in the Woods of Rymberworth, to make Charcoal for those Furnasses and Forges: And left issuen 1.14 three Sons, William, Richard, and Iohn.
Which Richard, in 11 Hen. 2. answeredo 1.15 for six Knights Fees upon paiment of his relief for Tickhill; and left issue Iohn his Son, who took to Wife* 1.16 ... one of the two Daughters and Heirs to Roesia, Daughter of Ralph Fitz-Gilbert, Widow of William de Bussei: and con∣firmed p 1.17 to the Monks of Roche-Abby, what∣soever his Father had formerly given them: but dying without issue male, left Idonea his Daugh∣ter q 1.18, Heir to his whole estate; which Idonea became the Wifer 1.19 of Robert de Vipount (a great Baron in the North) who had leverys 1.20 of her Lands in 15 Ioh.
