OF this Family I have not seen any thing, till 22 H. 8 that Edward North,* 1.1* 1.2 (Son to Roger North of Walkringham, in Com. Nott. Esquire) and Sir Brian Tuke Knight, were constituteda 1.3 Clerks of the Parliament. Which Office they surrender'db 1.4 in 32 H. 8. this Edward being then Treasurer of the Court of Augmen∣tation; but in 36 H. 8. he was a Knight, and Chancellorc 1.5 of that Court. With which King he had such high esteem, as that amongst divers of the Nobility and others, whom he most trust∣ed, (being upon his death-bed) he was constitu∣ted d 1.6 one of his Executors: as also appointed to be of Council to his Son and Successor, King Edward the Sixth. And in 1 Mariae, being ad∣vanced to the dignity of a Baron of this Realm, by Summonse 1.7 to Parliament, took his place f 1.8 in that great Convention, upon the seventh of April accordingly.

After which, in 1 Eliz. 18 Dec. he was con∣stituted g 1.9 one of the Lords Commissioners to consider and allow of the claymes, which those should make, who were to perform any service, by Tenure, upon the day of that Queens Coro∣nation. And by his Testamenth 1.10 bearing date 20 Martii, 6 Eliz. bequeathing his body to be buried at Kirtling, (now called Carthlage) in Com. Cantab. gave to his Son and Heir, Sir Ro∣ger North Knight, his Parliament Robes; beseech∣ing God to bless him, and give him his grace, truly and faithfully to serve that Queen, and this Realm, and to beware of Pride and prodigal expences.

This Edward Lord North, Marryedi 1.11 to his first Wife, Alice, the Daughter of ... Squyer, of the South, (by Portsmouth) Widdow k 1.12 of ... Myrffyn of London, and by her had Issuel 1.13 two Sons, Sir Roger North Knight, and Thomas, and two Daughters; Christian, Marri∣ed m 1.14 to William Earl of Worcester, and Mary, ton 1.15 Henry Lord Scroope. And to his second Wife Margareto 1.16 Daughterp 1.17 to ... Butler of London, Widowq 1.18 of Sir David Brooke Knight, Lord Chief Baron of the Exchequer, and depart∣ing r 1.19 this life, at his House called the Charter-House, near London, upon Sunday the last of December, An. 1564. (7 Eliz.) was burieds 1.20 in a Vault under the Chancel at Carthlage, on the South side, which he had caused to be made for that purpose.

Which Sir Roger* 1.21 succeeding him in his honor, had summonst 1.22 to Parliament, in 8 Eliz. and took his placeu 1.23 there accordingly, upon the 30 of September, and in 9 Eliz. accompanied* 1.24 the Earl of Sussex, with the Order of the Garter, to Maximilian the Emperor, then at Uenna. And in 15 Eliz. he wasx 1.25 one of the Peers, who then sate upon the Tryal of Thomas Duke of Norffolk. Moreover, upony 1.26 the death of Sir Francis Knolles, Knight of the Garter, and Trea∣surer of the Houshold, in An. 1596. (39 Eliz.) he succeededz 1.27 him in that Office: and by his Testamenta 1.28 bearing date 20 Oct. 40 Eliz. be∣queathed his body to be buried in the Church of Kirtling. After which, within less then two Months, departing this life, he was there buryed,b 1.29 22 Dec. ensuing.

By Winifride his Wife, Daughterc 1.30 to Richard Lord Riche, and Widowd 1.31 of Sir Henry Dud∣ley Knight; he had Issuee 1.32 two Sons, Sir Iohn North Knight, who died in his life time, and f 1.33 Sir Henry North Knight, as also one Daughter g 1.34 called Mary.

Which Sir Iohn,* 1.35 in 21 Eliz. wenth 1.36 with Sir Iohn Norris, and other brave young Men, in∣to the Netherlands, there to exercise them∣selves in the Discipline of War: but diedi 1.37 be∣fore his Father; leaving Issue, by Doratby his Wife, Daughterk 1.38 and Co-heir to Valentine Dale, Doctor of Law, four Sons, Dudley, Iohn, Ro∣ger, and Gilbert; and ... Which Dudley,* 1.39 succeeding his Grandfather, Married Frances the Daughter and Co-heir to Sir Iohn Broket of Broket-Hall, in Com. Hertf. by whom he left Issue, two Sons, who survived him, Dudley his Son and Heir, and Iohn, (Charles and Robert dying in his life time) as also two Daughters, Dorothy, Married to Richard Lord Dacres of the South, and Elizabeth, who died unmarried; and departing this life upon the sixth of Ianuary, An. 1666. (being then eighty five years of age) was buried at Carthlage.

Which last mentioned Dudley,* 1.40 (now Lord North) was made Knight of the Bath, in An. 1616. at the Creation of Charles Prince of Wales and by Anne his Wife, Daughter and Co-heir to Sir Charles Moutagu Knight, (a younger Brother to Henry, late Earl of Manchester) hath Issue six Sons, first Charles, who Married Catherine, Daughter to William Lord Grey of Wark, Wi∣dow of Sir Edward Moseley of the Hough, in Com. Lanc. Baronet; and by a special Writ of Summons was called to Parliament, in 25 Car. 2. by the Title of Charles Lord Grey of Rolleston. Secondly, Sir Francis North Knight, Atturney-General to King Charles the Second; and now Lord Chief Justice of the Court of Common-Pleas; Thirdly Dudley, a Merchant in London; Fourthly Iohn, Fifthly Mountague; and sixthly, Roger: And four Daughters, Mary, Married to Sir William Spring of Pakenham, in Com. Suff. Baronet; secondly, Anne; thirdly Elizabeth, to Sir Robert Wiseman Knight, Doctor of the Civil Law; and fourthly Christian, to Sir George Wy∣neive of Brettenham, in Com. Suff. Knight.
