LOdowick,* 1.1 sona 1.2 to Esme Stuart Duke of Le∣nor, in Scotland (and Grandsonb 1.3 to Iohn Lord d'Aubignie, younger brother to Mathew Earl of Lenor, (who was Grand∣father to King Iames) bearing the Titlec 1.4 of Lord Darnley, Tarbolton, and Methven: being d 1.5 also Lord great Chamberlain, and Admiral of Scotland; Lord Steward of the King's Houshold, and Knight of the most noble Order of the Garter; was, upon the sixth of October, 11 Iac. advancede 1.6 to the dignity of a Baron of this Realm, by the Title of Lord Settrington, of Settrington, in Com. Ebor. as also created Earl of Richmund; And,f 1.7 upon the 17th of May, 21 Iac. Earl of Newcastle upon Tine, and Duke of Richmund.
This Lodowick marriedg 1.8 three wives. First ... Rut••bven, sister to the late Earl Gowrie in Scotland; Secondly, ... sister to Sir Hugh Campbell, widow of Robert Montgomerie of Eglinton, in that Realm; and lastly Frances, daughter of Thomas Vicount Howard of Bin∣don, widow of Edward Earl of Hertford. But by none of these having any issue, he departed h 1.9 this life at Whitehall, upon the eleventh day of February, An. 1623. (21 Iac.) as he was ma∣king ready to go to the Parliament, then sitting. Whereupon he had an Honourable Burial in King Henry the Seventh's Chapel at Westmin∣ster, and a stately Tombe erected to his memo∣ry, with this Epitaphi 1.10

A younger Brother to this Duke, was Esm••.* 1.12 Stuart, who bore the Titlel 1.13 of Lord d'Aubig∣nie (a place so called, lyingm 1.14 in the Dutchy of Auvbergne, in France) by reasonn 1.15 that Ro∣bert Stuart, brother to Iohn, Earl of Lenox, Great-grandfather to the before-specified Iohn, had that Lordship of Aubignie given unto him by King Charles the Sixth of France, for his sin∣gular Valor, and Military skill, being Comman∣der of certain Forces in his service.
Which Esme was createdo 1.16 Lord Leighton of Leighton-Bromswould, in Com. Hunt. and Earl of March, 7 Iunii, 17 Iac. And marriedp 1.17 Ca∣therine, the sole daughter and heir to Gervase Lord Clifton of Leighton-Bromswould, by Catherine his wife, the daughter and sole heir to Sir Henry Darcy of Brimham, in Com. Ebor. Knight, and by her had issueq 1.18 seven sons; Iames born at Blackfriers in London, 6 Apr. An. 1612.
