St. Jerom believed, that Beelphegor was the God Priapus. Fornicati sunt cum Madianitis, & ingressi sunt ad Beelphegor idolum Madiana∣tarum, quem nos Priapum possumus appellare. He says also the same thing, writing against Jovinian. Propriè quippe Phegor linguâ hebraeâ Priapus appellatur.
