BItynctus next of Auergnatis kynge Cam tofore bochas gynnynge his cōpleint Of his distresse thordre rehersinge And howe that he was made feble & feynte Agayn the romayns mischeuously atteynt Nat withstondynge to mayntene his quarell He cast of pride ageyne them to rebell
But it is first put in remembraunce Howe Auergnatis is a nacion Hangynge on gaule longeth vnto fraunce Of which Bytinct stode in possession Hauynge despight in his opynion To the romayns any wyse to obey But proudly cast agayn them to werrey
His laboure was to stonde in fraunchise And be at large from their subiection Gan of pride their lordship to despise Gadred people of presumpcion Whom for to mete fabius was sente doun A mighty consull which knightly toke on honde For that party Bytinctus to withstonde
Of whoos comynge bytinctus toke disdeyne Bycause the folke which fabyus dyd lede Were but fewe and whan he hath them seyne He saide of scorne this people who taketh hede May nat suffise myn houndys for to fede Whan they be slayne to fewe they be in noumbre With multitude that I shall them encoumbre
An hundryd thousande in his vauwarde he had That passe shuld of auuernere the ryuere And foure score thousande besyde that he lad The consull fabius met him with gode chere Whan he was passyd of rodamus the daungere Faught all the day tyll it drewe to night The romayns wan their soon were put to flight
At the Ryuere lyke as seith the boke There were drownyd and brough to myschaunce Fyfty thousande as they the water toke Thrugh fortunes frowarde variaunce And by atreyne tencres of his greuaunce Bitincus take was of the romeyns Dampned to pryson there to dye in cheyns
